Talented and Gifted (TAG)

Talented and Gifted (TAG) Program

The Bethel School District TAG program is designed to meet the educational needs of academically talented and intellectually gifted students in grades K-12 who are capable of performing at advanced levels and accelerated rates of learning.

The program supports the active partnership of teachers, parents and students working together to increase student achievement. The program meets the requirements for the State Mandate for Gifted Education, ORS 343.397 (1)(a) and OAR 581092202500

How are students recommended for TAG?

Students may be recommended for TAG screening by parents, guardians, family members, teachers or other school staff. Recommendations are accepted at any time throughout the school year.

If you believe your student may qualify for TAG services, we encourage you to complete our TAG Referral Form.

What happens after a recommendation?

Once a recommendation is submitted, it is sent to the district's TAG coordinator, who works with school staff to begin the screening process.

Teachers are asked to provide additional information about the student's learning and abilities. A school team then reviews multiple sources of information, including:

  • State assessment results
  • District assessment results
  • Teacher feedback and observations
  • Other relevant information about the student's learning and academic strengths

The team considers this information to determine whether the student meets the criteria for TAG identification.

Families are notified of the identification decision through a letter from their school's principal, sent by both mail and email.

Questions or need assistance?

If you have questions about TAG identification, referrals or services, please contact your school's principal.

Families may also request assistance with the referral process or information in their preferred language or an accessible format.
