Willamette High School

Bethel School District Eugene OR

Coming Soon, First Semester Schedules.

Dear Willamette Student and Parent/Guardian,

The WHS scheduling team is actively revising student schedules for the first semester. First semester schedules will be available on Monday, 8/26/19 for previews via the Home Access Center.

After reviewing your schedule, please email requests for schedule adjustments to WHSscheduling@bethel.k12.or.us. We will make every attempt to fulfill this request prior to the start the semester. Due to class offering limitations and class size restraints, we will not be able to fulfill all requests.

If your schedule has one of the following errors after 9:00am on Wednesday, September 4th then students should go to the counseling center during the period that needs correction.

  1. Academic misplacement – For example, I was placed in Spanish 3 when I should be in Spanish 2.
  2. A necessary graduation requirement is missing – For example, I do not have an English class.
  3. A missing class – For example, my schedule is blank period 3.

As per state policy, only Seniors are eligible for an off-campus period.

New this year, students enrolled in Mr. Symonds Video Game Design, Web Design, Multimedia, and Computer Science Classes will now be labeled as “Computer Projects Lab” on your schedule.

We are excited to continue a great school year!

Thank You Mrs. Le Roux!

Principal Le Roux has dedicated twenty years and countless hours to Bethel students. As she moves on to a district-level position in Springfield School District, we want to take a moment to reflect and thank Mindy for her service in Bethel.

Mindy was hired in 1999 as a speech language pathologist at Danebo Elementary. In that role, Mindy worked directly with students on speech-related intervention. While at Willamette, she would often see students in the halls and as they crossed the graduation stage and fondly recount memories of working with them as elementary students.

In 2006, Mindy took a position in Bethel’s district office as the assistant special services director. In that capacity, she helped coordinate special services to all students in Bethel. During this time her passion for education and serving students shone through when she returned to the University of Oregon to earn her doctorate in education while still working full time!

In the fall of 2012 Mindy returned to a school position as an assistant principal at Willamette and, one year later, Mindy became Willamette’s principal. Mindy brought stability to Willamette by keeping her administrative team and the bulk of the staff together for five years. She recognized a need to better serve first generation college-going students and brought the AVID program to Willamette. She also identified a need to better serve students transitioning to high school and started the Willamette Prep Academy to serve 100 incoming freshmen.

Mindy is known for her openness to ideas. She started the Student Advisory Group and Parent Advisory Group in order to better hear thoughts, questions, and concerns from Bethel families. She worked with her staff on restorative practices with the idea of better meeting student needs, especially those experiencing trauma. Mindy cared deeply for all students.

On a personal level, Mindy maintained professionalism balanced with kindness, humor, and a calm steadiness in helping staff and students alike. Her warm smile and caring presence will be missed.

Thank you, Mindy, for the energy and time you dedicated to Bethel families. Good luck on your next adventure. We will miss you!

Willamette Graduation Ceremony Update

We will have our graduation ceremony outdoors, in Wolverine Stadium. Here are a couple details to remember:

  • Gates will open at 5:15 with the ceremony starting at 6:30.
  • Umbrellas are not allowed in the stadium. They shouldn’t be needed as the forecast is for the rain to cease by 5pm.
  • Live Stream Viewing Parties: Many families are wisely considering hosting viewing parties so all family and friends can enjoy the ceremony. Here is the link to the Willamette 2019 Commencement Ceremony live stream.

We are looking forward to Friday evening as we honor our Class of 2019.
