The students at Shasta have been working very hard this year! To recognize their efforts we will be displaying their work at the Shasta Project Fair on Thursday, May 17th from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the main gym.
During the Project Fair the PTO will be raising money for our school, and keeping our stomachs happy, through a barbacue. The barbacue will include hot dogs, chips, and soda. The cost is $3 per person or $10 for a family of 4. So bring your appetite and come see the amazing work of our Shasta students!

Jazz Band – 1st Place at Pleasant Hill Festival
Shasta Jazz Band, under the direction of Mike Reetz, took top honors at the Pleasant Hill Jazz Festival on April 21st. They were one of two bands selected to play at the evening ‘finals’ competition against Judson Middle School. Although Judson put up some good competition, Shasta left with the first place trophy. Judges commented on their mature sound and excellent swing feel, uncommon in the middle level.
Kyler Wilcox wowed the crowd with an emotionally charged saxophone feature on ‘Round Midnight’. During the band’s finale song, Dizzy Gillespie’s ‘Manteca’, Bryce Schug hit a double G on trumpet, a high note most high school students dream of playing! The Shasta Jazz combo was awarded a third place trophy in the combo division. The band is eagerly awaiting their trip to the Bellevue Jazz Festival the first weekend of May. How to Talk to Kids About Teen Sexuality
The Bethel Community Health Forum on Tuesday, May 1st at Cascade Middle School from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. is an opportunity for Bethel parents to learn practical methods on how to talk to their teenager about sexuality. Professionals from the Faith, Medical, Education, and Counseling communities will be there to talk and answer questions about this topic. There will be a raffle, free childcare, and food/refreshments available. Click here to learn more.

We Are Bethel…Be Involved!
Now’s the time to really be a part of the community and get involved in the annual We Are Bethel community celebration, set for Saturday, June 2nd at Petersen Barn Park. Here are two ways:
- Nominate a deserving community member for a special recognition called the Milk Toast. Everyone at the Celebration is given a pint of milk to raise in toast of the person of honor. Nominations for the Milk Toast honoree are now being solicited.
- Volunteer to help with the Let’s Move activities at We Are Bethel, such as guiding kids through an obstacle course, supervising a pajaggle game, or recording health metrics data.

Shasta’s Head Secretary, Patty Pilaczynski is celebrating her 70th birthday today and 29 years of service to Bethel School District! Coincidently, today is Administrative Secretaries Day – making this event even more special! Patty was hired in 1983 to oversee the Art/Woodworking area at Cascade Middle School and later was the Production Manager. She did a variety of tasks including secretarial work and worked at Cascade for 11 years before moving to her current position as administrative secretary at Shasta Middle School. After 18 years of service at Shasta, Patty continues to make a substantial contribution to the daily routines and operations of our school. Today we salute and celebrate a beloved employee whose years of service and kindness is appreciated by all who have worked with her. HAPPY 70th BIRTHDAY, PATTY PILACZYNSKI!
Shasta Update: Community Events
Track Meet - April 19th @ 4:00 p.m.
Shasta’s 1st Track Meet
Thursday, April 19th, Shasta will have its’ first track meet at Willamette High School. The meet will start at 4:oo p.m. and run until finished (around 6:30 p.m.). Transportation will be provided to WHS and parents are responsible for the ride home. Please have your son/daughter dress appropriately for the rainy weather.
8th Grade Candle Sales
Eighth grade students are selling candles to earn money for their end of the year activities. The candle sales will be ending April 26th. Please support them and buy a candle!
Calling All Moms And Grandmas
Bethel is hosting a free women’s health program called Health Woman. The April 21 event will focus on children’s asthma and will feature a physician presenter, a demonstration of green cleaning products, door prizes, activities for kids of the moms who attend, a Spanish interpreter, and healthy refreshments. Mark your calendar for Saturday, April 21, 10:30-12:30 at Cascade Middle School for this great opportunity.Spanish interpretation will be provided.

Comcast Internet at a Reduced Rate
Last year, Comcast offered internet service at a reduced rate for families with students who qualified for free lunches (via the National School Lunch Program). Great news; Comcast has now extended eligibility of this program to include all families with students who qualify for free & reduced lunches.
Shasta Track Program
Shasta Track starts April 3rd
The after school track program is once again starting at Shasta Middle School. Information about the track program was sent home with students before spring break. Below is some important information pertaining to the track program:
- Parent meeting at Meadow View School Monday, April 2nd at 7:00 p.m.
- Permission slips & money need to be turned in before a student can participate in track. Scholarships are available for students who qualify.
- Track practices will be Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday’s from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. Click here for the track schedule.
- Track meets will be on the following dates: April 19th and May 17th. Meets will start at 4:00 p.m. at Willamette High School.
- We are in need of parent volunteers! If you are interested in helping with the practices contact our front office at (541) 688-9611.
