Shasta Takes 2nd & 3rd at Pleasant Hill Jazz Festival
Jazz Band Takes Second!
Last Saturday, April 22nd, the Shasta Jazz Band attended the annual Pleasant Hill Invitational Jazz Festival in Pleasant Hill, Oregon. Band members and their families spent the day supporting local bands and performing. Eighth-grade tenor saxophonist Luke Turner received an outstanding soloist honor for his performance on Sammy Nestico’s “Samantha”, and after making it to finals, Shasta Jazz Band placed second in their division, with Judson Middle from Salem placing first. Festival judges were impressed with the Shasta Jazz Band’s intonation, musical expression, stylistic interpretation, improvised solos, and outstanding attitude and presence. Shasta Jazz Band wants to congratulate Shasta Session Choir for placing third at the festival, the Willamette High School Topnotchers on their second place trophy, WHS Jazz I on their second-place trophy, and WHS Jazz II, whose roster includes 4 current Shasta students, for their first-place trophy. We look forward to next year’s festival!
Session Takes Third!
Shasta’s Session Jazz Choir also performed at the Pleasant Hill Jazz Festival last weekend. Although it was a long day, the choir made Shasta proud by placing 3rd in a very competitive division. The choir received high marks in their overall musicianship and stage presence. Next up for Shasta Choirs – The Best of the Northwest held at the University of Portland on May 12th.
