A Reason to Celebrate!

National Teacher Appreciation Week is here! Although I shout their praises, in typical “proud parent” fashion, any chance I get, this coming week gives me the opportunity to spotlight these true heroes who work with our kids every. From the minute our kids turn on their Zoom class or walk through the doors of Malabon in the morning, there are greeters to fill their brain with positive affirmations that take them down the hall and into their classroom. It isn’t out of the ordinary for a child to walk to class and hear a morning greeting, a reminder of what makes them special, and an air hug or high five from seven or more adults. And that is just the beginning of their day. Every step of the way, all throughout the day, our Malabon staff is making a positive difference in the lives of our kids. In the classroom, on the playground, in the hallway, in a zoom classroom, in a break out room… our staff is there to make sure that each child feels seen and heard. We have a bit of a challenge going on to see who can call the most students they greet each day by name. So far, our custodian Mr. Josh and our counselor Mrs. Scott are neck and neck in knowing almost all the names!

Our Teachers spend countless hours building lessons designed to meet the individual needs of students. If they are not reaching even one student, a team meeting is called to figure out why. During this pandemic, it has been difficult to tell teachers that it is ok that their students are not at the academic level we would expect during a typical year. They are learning so many things this year! We all know that our kids are going to be ok…but it does not stop our staff from bending over backwards to do everything in their power to make sure they are!

I am grateful to work with this amazing Malabon staff every day! I get to watch engaging lessons, hear heart-warming conversations, and see kids achieve things that they never thought they could…because of the power of connection. The power of relationships. The power of authentic and meaningful teaching. The power of our Malabon Educators!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEND A SHOUT OUT TO YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER?

Click HERE  to add an appreciation message for your child’s teacher, a group of educators, or to our incredible Malabon staff as a whole. You can add your name or keep it anonymous. I will share comments with individual staff members and to our staff throughout the week! Thank you for helping me celebrate our team!  ~ Mrs. Spence
