Curriculum Goals and Objectives for 1994-95
1. All teachers will have daily access to a computer
2. All students will learn a basic battery of safe computer practices including
turning the computer on and off, inserting disks and CDs into the computer,
opening and closing applications, and how to use the mouse and keyboard.
3. Grades 4-5 will learn to access information from a CD Rom. Students will
learn basic word processing and keyboarding skills and how to save information
on the hard drive and then transfer to student's own disk.

Curriculum Goals and Objectives for 1995-96
1. All staff will use the ClarisWorks program for word processing.
2. ClarisWorks will be used for a data base for student information, spread
sheet for recording student grades, or word processing for parent newsletters.
3. Staff will be able to access their electronic mail by using the local
area network.
4. Staff will begin to integrate technology into the curriculum.
5. Students will be able to access a program from the hard drive or a CD.
6. Third to fifth grade students using technology for research and publishing.

1. Classroom set (30) of AlphaSmarts.
2. One color Scanner.
3. Six ink jet printers.
4. A Power Mac computer for each classroom, music room, the library and
the library office.
5. Two classroom presenters.

7. A laser printer for use by both the office and principal's office.

Irving Elementary Modified Year 3 Plan
Curriculum Goals and Objectives for 1996-97
1. Staff will integrate technology into an 8 week late winter/early spring
thematic unit on geography. Primary grades will focus on the country of
Brazil; intermediate grades will integrate geography and technology into
their Vacation unit.
2. Staff and students will be able to produce multimedia presentations
for instruction and projects using ClarisWorks Slide Show, HyperStudio
and a Macintosh multimedia computer connected to a TV monitor.
3. Staff and students will have access to and be able to use software appropriate
for the Geography thematic unit.
4. Staff and students will be able to access information resources using
BESTNet and the Internet.
Technology Additions 1996-97
1. Four Macintosh LC5260 computers will be purchased (on for the library
and three for classrooms).
2. One Macintosh LC5400 multimedia computer including TV presentation hardware.
3. Three HP printers (Newest black and white jet ink model).
4. Appropriate cables to connect the music room midi to a Macintosh computer.
5. Purchase appropriate software for the geography unit and other curriculum
needs including HyperStudio and Logo.
Training for 1996-97
1. All staff will receive training in the use of the multimedia software
HyperStudio.
2. All staff will receive training in the use of ClarisWorks Slide Show.
3. All staff will receive training in the use of the Macintosh LC5400 and
TV presentation hardware.
4. Staff will receive training for the integration of technology into the
geography thematic unit. Specifically, grade level teachers will be instructed
in the use of appropriate software and hardware as well as in how to integrate
technology into appropriate geography activities. This training will occur
just prior to the start of the unit and will be followed up by coaching
and support during the unit.
Technology Addition 1997-98
1. Purchase a CD server.
2. Purchase a new computer for each classroom and move the LC580s into the
mini-lab.
3. Begin purchasing networkable CDs.
Training Goals 1997-98
1. Training in how to use the CD server.
Training in how to make use of the mini-labs.
3. Provide staffing (some FTE) for consistent technology assistance, training
and maintenance.
Curriculum Goals and Objectives for 1998-99
1. Use the mini-labs to provide after school enrichment for students and
members of the community taught by high school students as part of their
community service goal.
Technology Additions 1998-99
1. Add one computer per classroom if money is available.
2. Replace obsolete or non-functioning computers, printers, and other technological
equipment.
3. Continue purchasing networkable CDs when appropriate.

Evaluation
The technology committee at Irving will meet at least twice yearly, once
in the fall to modify and update the five year plan, and in the spring to
evaluate the year.
