COVID-19, the Coronavirus

Hi Prairie Mountain Families,

Here’s the latest information from the Oregon Health Authority about response to COVID-19, the coronavirus.

Note that all Bethel schools were already doing most of what the OHA is recommending. Now, our staff will be even more vigilant and will refer students to the school health room for a quick check if they witness a student with an unusual amount of coughing, sneezing, etc. This is in an abundance of caution.

The OHA also recommends “social distancing”, trying to reduce interactions between people by staggering lunches and recesses or dividing into smaller groups. We’re still trying to figure out how we might be able to do that.

Meanwhile, keep reinforcing the healthy habits of hand washing, avoiding touching the face, covering a cough and staying home when ill, and when more information about COVID-19 is available, I’ll share it with you.

Thank you,

Jill RW

Gracias,

Jill RW

COVID-19: Keeping Sick Children Home

Bethel Schools are trying to be proactive to keep our students healthy. Here are a few things to keep in mind if your child is not feeling well.

  • Students should stay home when they’re ill with symptoms of a fever, cough or shortness of breath
  • Call your healthcare provider if your child has those symptoms
  • When calling or emailing the school to report them as being sick, please provide details on your child’s illness (all information will remain confidential)

As a reminder, we have been re-teaching students the healthy habits of properly covering a cough, not touching eyes, nose or mouth, and washing hands for at least 20 seconds. In addition, each of our classrooms and high traffic areas throughout the school are being sanitized with disinfecting solutions every day.

By being proactive and following guidelines when children are ill, together we can help maintain a healthy environment for all students and staff.

Our PTO Makes Positive Strides for All Students

Dear Prairie Mountain Community,

Last night’s  PTO meeting was encouraging, inspiring and informative.

Thank you to Jeni Gerlach, our amazing elementary music teacher, for opening up her classroom and talking to us about music education here on the Mountain. Thank you to Sherine Forest, our district nurse, for educating us on the Coronavirus, providing resources for families, and helping us understand steps that our district is taking to keep our kids healthy and safe. Thank you to Todd Woodward for sharing about his work creating a Parent Group designed for parents/guardians with students with disabilities. And thank you to all of the Project-Leaders who spoke about their upcoming projects.

Please know how much I appreciate all of you and the work we are doing together as a team for our most precious assets, our KIDS. We do our best work when we do it together.
Thank you,
Jill RW
