Prairie Mountain Families,

Happy 2017 to all! It has been an unusual start to the New Year given the interesting weather, and we are excited to have students and families back in the building.
I’d like to recognize our Prairie Mountain Band students and their director Casey Crane for their wonderful performance in the Winter Concert in December. Thank you for sharing your music with us!
And, we’d like to acknowledge the vital work of our Prairie Mountain custodial staff and our Bethel facilities and maintenance personnel who devoted hours in December and January to addressing weather-related issues around our building and school grounds. Special thanks also goes to our head secretary Krista Larson who helped tremendously on inclement weather days in our front office. Thanks for all you do to help our school!
As you may imagine, our January calendar is changing quite a bit. We will be working quickly to get updated information out to families, so please stay tuned.
Thursday, Jan. 19: On the Path to Graduation Night: We invite all our 7th and 8th grade students and families to attend this important evening from 7:00pm-8:00pm in our Caforium as we talk with students about preparing for success in the coming years. Willamette High School administrators will join us to talk about high school preparation and graduation. Snacks, childcare, and Spanish/English interpretation will be available. Please do plan to attend as we look ahead at the important years ahead.
The PTO Meeting and Math Night (originally Jan. 10) has been rescheduled to Tuesday, January 24th from 5:30-7:00pm in our Caforium. All are welcome, and the evening includes music from Jazz Band, pizza, childcare, and information on our math standards and curriculum.
The following events have been postponed and a new date will be published soon:
Parent/Teacher Conferences (originally Dec. 8/Jan.5—Postponed)
4th Grade Music Performance (originally Jan. 12)
Prairie Mountain Talent Show (originally Jan. 29)
Last, our PTO has published a newsletter to share with our school community. To access the fabulous first edition of the Prairie Mountain PTO newsletter, please click here for English and here for Spanish.
In the interest of student and staff safety, all Bethel schools will be closed Monday, January 9th.
While conditions on the main roads have improved overnight, the neighborhood streets and sidewalks – and school parking lots – remain covered with ice and slush.
An announcement about Monday’s evening activities will be made later today.
Attention Prairie Mountain 4th and 5th Grade Parents
We are excited to begin the 2nd year of partnership between the Bethel School District and Ophelia’s Place. Ophelia’s Place is a prevention-based organization, dedicated to helping youth make healthy life choices through empowerment, education, and support.
Ophelia’s Place will be presenting their “Peers As Allies” class to all Bethel 5th graders as well to Prairie Mountain 4th graders this winter. Click here to read more about an informational parent meeting Tuesday, January 10th at 7:00pm at the Bethel District Office. For Prairie Mountain, the meeting will be available 4th and 5th grade parents.
All Bethel schools are on a 2-hour delay Friday, January 6th.
Buses will pick up Prairie Mountain students 2 hours later than the normal time.
With a 2-hour delay, classes for grades 6-8 will begin at 10:05 and grades K-5 at 10:10. A cold breakfast will be available beginning at 9:40. A hot lunch will also be served.
Dismissal will be at our regular time, 2:10.
Some side roads and sidewalks are slick, and caution is urged on the morning commute. Parents are encouraged to use their best judgement about their child’s school attendance.
In the interest of student and staff safety, Bethel School District schools will be closed Thursday, January 5th due to the ice and snow. All evening activities are also cancelled.
Today’s K-8 Parent-Teacher Conferences are also postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.
Todas las escuelas están cerradas el jueves, 5 de enero, debido a la nieve y el hielo. Esperamos abrir las escuelas el viernes.
The City of Eugene has issued an ice-snow emergency, asking us to stay off the roads. And the forecast calls for frigid temperatures throughout the day Thursday, which means the slick driving conditions are not expected to significantly significantly improve.
This will be the 5th Snow Day in Bethel and winter has only just begun. We have also had one 2-hour delay.
As a result, days will need to be made-up during the week of June 19th. The number of make-up days has not yet been determined, but please make plans now for all Bethel schools to be in session that week.
