Bingo Night: Thursday, March 8th

If you’re looking for an evening of family fun, then you’ll want to join us on Thursday, March 8th from 6:30pm-8:00pm for our annual BINGO NIGHT! This event is a fundraiser for our 8th grade students’ end-of-year trip and celebration. It is a favorite among Prairie Mountain staff, students, and families each year! All Prairie Mountain families are invited and welcome to attend. There will be some wonderful prizes, as well as snacks available for purchase.

New This Year: You can buy “Bingo Bucks” to be used for Bingo games or snacks. You can pay by credit/debit card or with cash. Sorry, we cannot offer a refund on any unused portion of purchased Bingo Bucks.

Dear Prairie Mountain Families,

We’re excited that March is here and Spring is just around the corner.  The week ahead brings lots of learning and fun to Prairie Mountain.  Read below for a few upcoming events:

PTO Meeting:   All are welcome to attend our PTO’s next meeting on Tuesday, March 6 from 2:30-3:30 in our Elementary Library.  Come find out about school happenings and how you can be involved in school programs.  Childcare is available.

PTO’s Monster Dough Cookie Fundraiser:  The fundraiser will kick off this Tuesday, March 6th as order forms go home to families. All cookie dough orders & payment will be due back to school on Tuesday, March 20th, and delivery/Pick-up of Cookie Dough will be on Thursday, April 5th.  Anyone interested in helping with the fundraiser please email the PTO at prairiemountainpto@gmail.com.

8th Grade Forecasting:   Counselors from Willamette High School will visit Prairie Mountain classes this Thursday, March 8 to assist students with completing the forecasting process as the select classes for their freshman year at WHS.  Thank you for talking at home about course selection and high school success so they can complete the forecasting process on Thursday.

K-8 Bingo Night:   Plan to join us on Thursday, March 8 from 6:30-8:00 for our annual BINGO NIGHT for all K-8 families. The evening serves as a fundraiser for our 8th grade students’ end-of-year trip and celebration and is a favorite each year!

K-5 PRIDE Assembly:   We’re looking forward to recognizing elementary students for demonstrating our school’s life skills of Problem-solving, Responsibility, Integrity, Determination, and Empathy this Friday, March 9th and kicking off March’s Kindness Challenge.

The week ahead holds excursions in 2nd grade and 7th grade as well as a visit from Oregon’s Kid Governor speaking on his anti-bullying platform for our 4th and 5th grade students.  We so enjoy working with your children every day!  It’s a true privilege to involve them in great learning opportunities and see them grow.

No School Day

Friday, March 2nd will be a “no school day”  for all Prairie Mountain students. Teachers across the district will be working collaboratively on curriculum development. Enjoy your long weekend!

Orientation for 8th graders at Willamette High School This Evening

On February 27th there will be an evening orientation for all incoming students and their families (details attached). The first session will start in Powers Auditorium at 5:30pm and the second session will start at 7:00pm. Both orientation sessions will be the same. Please attend the session that best fits your schedule.

 

WHS staff look forward to meeting with you and introducing you to Willamette High School. If you should have any questions about orientation or any other aspect of freshman life at WHS, please give us a call. Starting high school is an exciting benchmark in young people’s lives and we are excited to embark upon this journey with you!

El 27 de febrero habrá una orientación vespertina para todos los estudiantes entrantes y sus familias.  La primera sesión comenzará en el Auditorio Powers a las 5:30 y la segunda sesión comenzará a las 7:00 p.m.  Ambas sesiones de orientación serán las mismas.  Asista a la sesión que mejor se ajuste a su horario.

Food Drive:  Thanks to everyone for participating in our “Love Your Neighbor” Food Drive in partnership with Food for Lane County.   Classrooms are gathering non-perishable food items to provide to people in our community and we appreciate students’ willingness to demonstrate community building, compassion, and service as we focus on kindness this month.  Click here to read more about activities in February focused on Food, Friendship, and Fun!

WACAI Drumming Classes:  Thanks to the West African Cultural Arts Institute, about twenty students in 3rd-5th grade are participating in a free after school drumming class twice a week and preparing for a performance in March.  We’ll look forward to seeing them perform!

PTO: Come hear about Prairie Mountain and ways you can be involved in event planning and supporting school programs and family engagement.  Childcare is available.  Meeting times alternate between right after school and evening each month.  PTO will not be meeting in February, but will meet at their next planned date of March 6 at 2:30pm.

CTE Cruise:  Planning is underway for a series of after school classes for next year’s 8th graders that will provide an early look at Career and Technical Education opportunities.   Stay tuned for more information this spring about sign-ups for this amazing opportunity made possible by the CTE Revitalization Grant that Bethel middle schools were awarded from the Oregon Department of Education.

Noticias de Prairie Mountain

Colecta de Alimentos: Gracias a todos por participar en nuestra Colecta de Alimentos “Ama a tu projimo” en asociación con Comida para el Condado Lane. Los salones de clases están recaudando alimentos no perecederos para darselos a gente en nuestra comunidad y apreciamos la disposición de los estudiantes a demonstrar un sentido de comunidad, compasión y servicio mientras nos enfocamos en la bondad este mes. ¡Haga clic aqui para leer más acerca de las actividades en febrero enfocadas en Comida, Amistad y Diversión!

Clases de tambores de WACAI: Gracias al Instituto de Artes Culturales de África Occidental, alrededor de veinte estudiantes de 3. ° a 5. ° grado participan en una clase de tambores gratuita después de la escuela dos veces por semana y se preparan para una presentación en marzo. ¡Esperamos verlos actuar!

PTO: . Venga a escuchar acerca de Prairie Mountain y las formas en que puede participar en la planificación de eventos y el apoyo a los programas escolares y la participación familiar.
