Requesting Your Feedback

Dear Prairie Mountain Families,

Bethel School District wants your feedback regarding the possible development and implementation of a Magnet program at the elementary level. What is a Magnet school? A magnet school offers special instruction not available at all public schools. For example a magnet school could specialize in language, arts, science, etc.

Please take a moment to complete this quick and anonymous survey. There are only 5 multiple choice questions and your help will give the District valuable information. Thanks very much for your participation.

Encuesta Importante

Por favor de tomarse un tiempo para completar esta encuesta anónima y rápida. Solamente hay 5 preguntas de opción múltiple y le dará información valiosa al Distrito.

Safety Week on the Mountain / Semana de Seguridad en la Montaña

Dear Students and Families,

This week we will be participating in our annual Prairie Mountain Safety Week.  All this week we will be having discussions with our students about ways that they can keep themselves safe from danger and in dangerous situations.

On Tuesday, we will be participating in a lockdown drill.  Lockdown is the command used in the event of a threat or perceived threat at or near our school.  During the drill on Tuesday, an intercom announcement will inform staff and students that the drill will begin.  Staff will then be asked to secure their classrooms.  Teachers will lock classroom doors, close the blinds, move students away from the windows, turn out the lights and remain quiet.  The drill will last about three minutes, at which point another announcement will be made that the drill is over.  Teachers will also share that in the event of imminent danger, they may ask students (depending on grade level) to help barricade the door to make sure no one can enter the classroom or ask students to quickly evacuate the building. Tools that teachers will be using during these conversations are scripts that were created by the District Safety Committee and videos that were created in partnership with Eugene Police Department.

 Watch the 6-12 video here:

On Wednesday, we will be practicing a fire drill.  Each month schools practice fire drills, where students and staff evacuate the building and staff practice accounting for all kids.  During these drills, students are taught how to evacuate the building in an orderly fashion, line up facing away from the building, and listen intently to teacher directions.

On Thursday, we will partake in the Great Oregon Shake Out.  The Great Oregon Shakeout is an annual opportunity to practice how to be safer during earthquakes.  During this time we will teach our students the response of Drop, Cover, and Hold On.

Teachers will let students know that during all of our safety drills the most important thing for them to do is to listen to adult directions.

We intend to continue sharing our plans with you as we work together to ensure a safe school environment for all.

As always, feel free to contact me for clarification or more information.

Prairie Mountain PTO Sign-up

Hello Mountaineers,

I wanted to share a couple things with you all.

First of all, I wanted to thank everyone for coming out to our first PTO meeting a couple weeks ago.  It meant so much to me to see all of your faces and to be able to talk to you about all of the amazing things that our PTO does for students and staff here on the Mountain.  I’m excited to move into our Prairie Mountain PTO 2.0 format.  For those that didn’t attend please take a peek at the slide show below for more information about this change.  Also during this meeting, folks who attended filled out a PTO Meeting Time/Date Survey and the results overwhelmingly showed that people would like to have 5:30-6:30pm meetings.  Survey and you shall receive!  Our meetings will now be from 5:30-6:30pm.

We hope that you all can come to our next PTO meeting which is next Tuesday, October 9th, from 5:30-6:30pm in our caforium.  Continue reading

Popcorn Friday Rocks Prairie Mountain

Prairie Mountain’s first Popcorn Friday of year went off with a bang!  Since the beginning of the year, 17 classes earned WOW.  This means that all of their students were at school, on time, for 3 days.  Each class that earns WOW receives a free bag of popcorn for each student.  Today our amazing Popcorn Poppers popped over 500 bags for our students.  I want to say thank you to all who came in this morning to volunteer their time to pop, pop, pop for our kids.  THANK YOU PRAIRIE MOUNTAIN VOLUNTEERS!  I would also like to thank our very own Kalin Brown for delivering popcorn to the elementary classes in our building.  Kalin was equipped with a stylish Popcorn Wagon, a map, and a smile.  Way to go Kalin.  You did a great job.  Our next Popcorn Friday is October 5, 2018.  If you would like to get involved and help us pop popcorn please let your child’s teacher know and we will get you signed up.  I am so proud to be an EAGLE!  Caw, Caw
