Chinese Students visited Prairie Mountain:  On Feb. 2 and 3, eleven students visited our fourth-grade classrooms from Experimental Primary School Affiliated to Beijing Fengtai Second Middle School in Beijing.  We know our students had great fun making friends with our visitors from across the globe, sharing their music across cultures, and learning about life in China.

4th Grade and 5th grade Music Performances:  Our K-5 students enjoyed lively songs about Oregon from our 4th grade students and songs in many languages sung by our 5th graders in their music performances this month.  Our K-5 music teacher Jessika Smith and all our students did a wonderful job sharing music with our students and families.

Kindergarten Pre-registration:  Families of students who will be in kindergarten next fall can come to Prairie Mountain for a registration packet or can access registration information online at the link on our website.  We’re excited to welcome the incoming Class of 2030!

PM Talent Show:  Our Prairie Mountain Talent Show is coming up February 28 at 6:30pm in our Caforium.  We’re looking forward to this annual event put on by staff volunteers.  Auditions take place Monday, Feb. 20 and Tuesday, Feb. 21 for students who turned in their permission slips last week based on the schedule posted by Jessika Smith.

flu season aheadWe are experiencing a high number of absences due to students being ill with what may be the flu.
If you think your child has the flu, the following will help you and help prevent others from getting sick:
• Stay at home for 24 hours until after fever has resolved without the aid of fever reducing medicines (e.g., Advil or Tylenol)
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Stay home when sick. Maintain distance from other people to prevent the spread of illness.
• Wash hands often with soap and hot water for at least 20 seconds. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are also helpful in reducing the spread of the flu.
• Cover coughs and sneezes with tissues or by coughing into the inside of the elbow. Wash hands after blowing the nose or coughing into a tissue and dispose of tissues after use.
• Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth to prevent the spread of germs.
• Get the flu vaccine! The flu vaccine is the best way to prevent seasonal flu. Continue reading
