Principal’s Update: Meadow View Happenings

Today is the first day of spring!  The weather doesn’t indicate sunny skies and colorful flowers but spring has officially arrived. Looking forward, there will be much happening in our school as we move through the final twelve weeks of our school year.

If you are a family who is attending Meadow View on either an in-district or out of district transfer, please make sure to get your paperwork to the district office by 5:00 on April 2, 2012. This is the deadline for the district’s open enrollment process and you don’t want be late or it might be very difficult to attend Meadow View next year.

I am so tired!

March Madness was a huge success.  The teachers and the 8th grade students battled back and forth with several lead changes and at the end of the game, the teachers came out on top by a few points.  Regardless of the final score, everyone was a winner and memories were made to last a lifetime.

Spring Break is just a few days away and don’t forget Friday, March 23 is a budget reduction day. Bethel students won’t return to school until Monday, April 2.  I would like to encourage you to have your child do some recreational reading over the break.  Being out of school for ten days can cause regression so please read as much as you can!

Meadow View’s 8th grade students will soon be experiencing some exposure to Willamette High School.  Our 8th grade students will be visiting the school on Wednesday, April 4 during the school day and then again on Thursday, April 5 at 7:00 in the evening for Parent Orientation.

Spring Pictures are scheduled to take place tomorrow.  I have been told everyone will be photographed, proofs will be sent home in a few weeks and then families can purchase the pictures they enjoy the most.  The order forms went home this Tuesday.

Cell phones have been a bit problematic of late. Please remind your child if they bring a cell phone to school, it should not be out once inside the building. If a student is caught with a cell phone out once inside the building, it will be collected and brought to the office.  All our classrooms have telephones as well as our office area in the event children need to make a phone call. I appreciate you visiting this with your child!

Enjoy your day-

Brian

March Madness is just around the corner!  Don’t miss out on the staff  -vs-  8th grade basketball game.  It is scheduled for Tuesday, March 13th in the south gym. The doors open at 6:00 and the game begins at 6:30. The admission is $2 at the door.  The staff team consists of past and present staff members so come on down and you just might see someone you recognize Meadow View legends!

The Butter Braids fund raiser is coming to a close.  Orders are due to the school no later than March 15. Please be sure to put your order in a sealed envelope with your child’s name written on the outside. This will help with keeping orders straight.

The Meadow View coin drive to support Mr. Wolverine is ending this Thursday.  If you would like to make a donation to support The Children’s Miracle Network, please send your contribution to the school with your child.  We have set a building goal of $1000 and currently we have collected $450.

Dr. Seuss week was a success.  We had over 300 skaters who showed up at Skateworld to kick the week off.  We also had several students and staff who participated in the daily dress up plan.  Well done everyone!

Trivia Night is tomorrow night in Willamette High School’s caforium. I am hosting this event with former assistant principal Jenny Sink. Trivia Night is modeled after a quiz show, only this time you get to use teams.  Each table of 6-8 will be a team.   Teams will listen to the announcer read 10 questions which constitutes a round.  We will keep a running score.  Between rounds there will be fun audience participation games and prizes, so bring your check book.  The winning team will win prizes!!  There will be Teriyaki Chicken Meals available for $4.   The meal includes noodles, salad, fruit, drink, and dessert.  There will also be hot dogs and soft drinks for sale for $1.  All tables will have popcorn to snack on to help fuel your brain!!  Everyone will receive a silly band bracelet to remind them of the fun evening!  Everyone is welcome, but younger kids won’t be able to participate as much as middle school or high school aged students.  This will be a super fun and challenging night, and a great chance to help Bethel Education Foundation raise money to support all Bethel Schools!  Tickets are available at all schools and will be available at the door, but space is limited, so buy your ticket today.  For more information please visit betheleducationfoundation.org. BEF gave out $24,000 in grants this school year!  Please help us help kids!! The doors open at 6:00 and the games begin at 6:30.

Kindergarten Round-Up is early this year across the district.  Meadow View will be hosting this event on Thursday, March 8th in the caforium beginning at 6:30. This is only 10 days away.  If you have an incoming kindergarten student or know of someone who does, please pass this information along to them. If you haven’t contacted the office letting them know you have a kindergarten aged child coming in September, please do so prior to March 8 . Child care will be provided in the north gym for children two and older.

March Madness teams have been formed by our 8th grade students. This year they are determined to defeat the teachers. The word on the street is the staff won’t be denied! Mark those calendars for Tuesday, March 13th from 6-8. The cost is $2 at the door and you won’t want to miss the fun and exciting event.

This year Meadow View moved toward an electronic newsletter.  We have also provided a paper copy for any family who has requested one. I am curious how this is working for our families. Please remember the newsletter is posted at the end of each month for the upcoming month.  Parents do not receive a notification of this information being posted.  Please feel free to share your thoughts and opinions with me regarding this topic.

Dont forget Dr. Seuss Week starts this Monday! This year we are kicking off the week in a different way.  Rather than a Friday night activity, we are doing a Monday night activity. On Monday, February 27th the school has rented Skate World from 6:30-8:30 for all Meadow View families. We are charging $1 for students and parents skate for free!  We are hoping to see you there!

When was the last time you laughed hysterically?  If you like to laugh and you enjoy basketball, then you won’t want to miss the Staff -vs- 8th Grade Basketball Game scheduled for March 13th at 6:00. The staff is undefeated over the last four years but this year could be different.  Our 8th grade students are feeling confident and are looking forward to schooling the staff! The entry fee is $2 at the door.  Raffle tickets will also be sold at the door and if your name is drawn out, you will be shooting for cash!

Do you like to play the game called Trivial Pursuit?  If you answered yes, then you won’t want to miss the Bethel Education Foundation Trivia Night. This event is happening Friday, February 24th at Willamette High School’s cafeteria. The doors open at 6:00 and the trivia games begin at 6:30. Tickets are on sale now in our front office for $5 and will also be sold at the door the night of the event. Come as a participant or come as a spectator. 5th Grade Music Program

"From Sea to Shining Sea: A Road Trip Across America"

The Fifth graders entertained students and parents on Thursday, January 26th, with the musical “From Sea to Shining Sea: A Road Trip Across America”. Students worked hard for about five weeks to put together the production.

A small cast of actors played recent college graduates who took a road trip across the country, learning about music from different regions of the U.S. as they went.

Each fifth grade students played a special part on the barred percussion instruments at some point. These students had a lot to be proud of for their final elementary music program!
