Pappy’s Pizza is sponsoring a fundraiser for a Meadow View student who has recently encountered some significant health challenges. Flyers were sent home this week in the Tuesday folder. The fundraising event is scheduled for May 14 and you must present the flyer at the time of food purchase. If you did not receive the flyer, here’s a copy. The school also has an envelope in the front office if you would like to donate in a different way. Donations, gift cards and gas cards are being collected. Principal’s Update: Meadow View Happenings
8th grader Dustin Jones will have more room to fly in the newly expanded Meadow View long jump pit.
We recently encountered a pleasant problem with a simple solution here at Meadow View School. During the first Bethel Track Meet of the season, Dustin Jones, one of our 8th grade students jumped 16 feet, 6 inches in the long jump. This was not only a record but caused a problem for practice sessions because the long jump pit is too short. He has out jumped it! Dustin and his family recently spent some time at the school expanding the pit and now all is well until he jumps 20 feet and we need to do further expansion!
The jog-a thon is coming this Friday, May 4. If you haven’t already returned your volunteer sheet to assist with the event, please get your form to the office early Tuesday morning. This event is the second largest fundraising activity we do here at Meadow View so please get those pledges and let’s make this fundraiser a successful one! Please have your child wear appropriate shoes and dress for the weather.
This week is school spirit week. Monday is miss matched socks, Tuesday is Hawaiian shirt day, Wednesday is wacky mis-matched clothes, Thursday is Duck/Beaver or Green/Orange clothes day and Friday is wear your jog-a thon or Meadow View shirt. Our school colors of blue and green also work great!
This Wednesday is our next PTO meeting at 6:30 in the south media center. It was great seeing a few new faces last month so please come and see what his happening in our school. This is a terrific way to
learn more and get involved at a level that works for you. Without parents, we can’t offer the fun things we do here at Meadow View so come on down and join the fun!
The deadline for publishing the yearbook has passed and has just gone to print. The last time I checked, I was told we have 80 yearbooks left to be sold. This always go fast, especially the last few weeks of school so don’t wait or you might be too late! You can purchase your yearbook in the front office.
Do you want to know more about How to Talk to Kids About Teen Sexuality? Parents & guardians of middle and high school students are encouraged to attend the adults-only Bethel Community Health Forum on Tuesday, May 1, from 6:30-8:00 at Cascade Middle School. Bethel parents will learn practical methods on how to talk to their teenagers about sexuality. Professionals from the Faith, Medical, Education, and Counseling communities will be there to lead the discussion and answer questions. A raffle, free childcare, and food/refreshments are included. We are in the process of wrapping up state testing for students in grades 3-8. The testing window closes Thursday, May 17th. This leaves 14 more days of testing and then we are finished for another year. The results have been positive and our students have worked extremely hard this year.

Lowden Hansen has a Top 10 finish in the state GeoBee
Meadow View students have been participating in the National Geographic Society GeoBee for the past six years. This year Lowden Hansen, an 8th grade student won the Meadow View competition. Next, he took a 70 question geography test and when scored, it was determined he had qualified for state. Lowden recently placed 10th out of 100 state finalists. Congratulations to Lowden and way to represent our school!
As you know, spring pictures were scheduled to take place before spring break and then the snow came to Eugene. The new date has been set for April 16 and the 8th grade class picture will also be happen on that date. Let’s hope we don’t get snowed out again!
The Meadow View Track Teams started practicing this week. This program is available to any student in grades 4-8 wanting to participate. If your child hasn’t completed the paperwork and you would like to have them participate, please pick up your forms in the office. The first track meet for students in grades 6-8 is scheduled for April 19th and students in grades 4-5 will be competing for the first time on April 26. The meets take place at Willamette High School and begin at 4:00. Go Meadow View!
Next Wednesday and Thursday Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences are happening. If your child did not bring home a conference scheduling form or a conference confirmation form, please call the front office and the secretaries can assist you with scheduling a conference time or letting you know when you are scheduled to have a conference. The Book Fair is also set up in the upper grades library.
You don’t want to miss out on the 2011-2012 Meadow View Yearbook! We order 300 yearbooks every year and I believe we have sold approximately half of our allotment. These are sold on a first come, first serve basis so don’t wait. Once they are gone we are not able to order more so if you are interested, it might be a good idea to stop in at the office during conferences. The cost of the yearbook is $20 and it consists of 60 colored pages with a hard cover.

Principal’s Update: Meadow View Happenings
March Madness is just around the corner! Don’t miss out on the staff -vs- 8th grade basketball game. It is scheduled for Tuesday, March 13th in the south gym. The doors open at 6:00 and the game begins at 6:30. The admission is $2 at the door. The staff team consists of past and present staff members so come on down and you just might see someone you recognize Meadow View legends!
The Butter Braids fund raiser is coming to a close. Orders are due to the school no later than March 15. Please be sure to put your order in a sealed envelope with your child’s name written on the outside. This will help with keeping orders straight.
The Meadow View coin drive to support Mr. Wolverine is ending this Thursday. If you would like to make a donation to support The Children’s Miracle Network, please send your contribution to the school with your child. We have set a building goal of $1000 and currently we have collected $450.
Dr. Seuss week was a success. We had over 300 skaters who showed up at Skateworld to kick the week off. We also had several students and staff who participated in the daily dress up plan. Well done everyone!
