Meadow View WINS the EWEB Solar Car Challenge!

Congratulations to Meadow View’s Mrs. Mandy Forester and our amazing 8th graders for the hard work they put in on their solar cars–it definitely paid off! For the past several weeks, students across Lane County have been working on building their own solar-powered cars. Over the weekend, EWEB hosted its 22nd annual Solar Car Challenge. The car categories were art concept, hill climb, speed and science/design concept. Several Meadow View students qualified and competed this weekend and WON. Taylor Marks, Makayla Gordon and Sara Nguyen placed 1st in speed racing and Jared Vaughn and Billy Bauer placed 2nd in science concepts and design. YAY! Check out the slideshow below.

Safety Drill this Wednesday

On Wednesday, Meadow View students and staff will practice a lockdown drill. Lockdown is the command used in the event of a threat-or perceived threat at or near our school. During our drill, an intercom announcement will inform staff and students that the drill will begin. Staff will then be asked to secure their classrooms. Teachers will lock classroom doors, close the blinds, move students away from the windows, turn out the lights, and ask students to remain quiet. The drill will last about three minutes, at which point another announcement will be made that the drill is over. Teachers will talk to students to prepare them for the lockdown drill. They will let students know that during a lockdown it is very important to stay quiet and listen to adult directions in order to stay safe. Teachers will also share that in the event of imminent danger, they may ask students (depending on grade level) to help barricade the door to make sure no one can enter the room or ask students to quickly evacuate the building. We practice drills to make sure everyone knows what to do in the event of an emergency.
