Test Drive a Car and Earn Money for Malabon School!

A new partnership with Kendall Toyota will bring thousands of dollars to Bethel schools.

The Drive For Education will provide $4,000 each month to Bethel during the school year. That money will be used to help update computers and other classroom technology.

In addition, each Bethel school will be in the running with Eugene 4j schools to earn up to $3,000 quarterly by the number of points they earn through Kendall Toyota. Points are awarded by visiting the dealership, Liking Kendall Toyota on Facebook, test driving a car, or for money spent at Kendall Toyota on sales or service.

For more information visit Kendall Drive For Education.

They need to be returned to the front office by June 1st.

Malabon Track Stars!

Malabon Track is in full swing. We have so many of our kids participating. They are doing a great job and having a fun time as well! Malabon’s next Elementary Track Meet is at Willamette H.S. track at 4:00pm next Wednesday, May 9th. Come and cheer on our Mustangs!

We Are Bethel…Be Involved!

Now’s the time to really be a part of the community and get involved in the annual We Are Bethel community celebration, set for Saturday, June 2nd at Petersen Barn Park. Here are two ways:

  1. Nominate a deserving community member for a special recognition called the Milk Toast. Everyone at the Celebration is given a pint of milk to raise in toast of the person of honor. Nominations for the Milk Toast honoree are now being solicited.
  2. Volunteer to help with the Let’s Move activities at We Are Bethel, such as guiding kids through an obstacle course, supervising a pajaggle game, or recording health metrics data.

If you have a great Milk Toast nominee and a legitimate reason why they should be honored….or would like to be engaged in your community by volunteering to help with the Let’s Move activities, email Peter Chavannes at peter.a.chavannes@ci.eugene.or.us

Calling All Kindergartners
It is pre-registration time for all Malabon area children who will be incoming kindergartners in September. Malabon is excited to welcome our newest students for Kindergarten Orientation on Wednesday, March 7th at 6:00pm.

Kids and parents will learn all about our terrific kindergarten program, meet our kindergarten teachers, principal, counselor and other key staff.

They’ll also take home a free special book that’s just for our incoming kindergarten students and hear about a free summer program to get your child ready for kindergarten.

If you know of a family with a child ready for kindergarten please spread the word about Malabon’s Kindergarten Orientation opportunity.

Open Enrollment In Bethel
We will offer tours of Malabon on Thursday and Friday, March 14th and 15th between 9:00 and 10:30 to introduce prospective students to our school.

Under a new Oregon law, students are now free to transfer to any school of their choice – as long as there is available space and the transfer request is submitted during the month of March.

Share this if you know someone who would like to join the “Bethel Family”.  Transfer Request forms can be found at our school office or on the Bethel homepage.

Community Events Helping our Kids

Tip the Scale

Games! Music! Free food and prizes! Malabon students and parents have an afternoon of free and active fun waiting for them on Saturday, February 25th at Petersen Barn. The UO, City of Eugene, United Way and others are teaming up for Tip the Scale, three hours of great activities for Malabon families.

There will also be a free raffle for prizes and lots of valuable ideas and take-home information about healthy lifestyles and interesting local programs to benefit your family. I’m hoping for a great Malabon turnout. It’s free, it’s practically next door, so stop in and check it out at Pete Barn on the 25th from 2:00-5:00 p.m.

MAKE A LIFETIME OF DIFFERENCE IN JUST THREE HOURS

According to recent data, 82% of all children entering kindergarten in Lane County’s two Promise Neighborhoods do not meet the early literacy benchmark. Kids In Transition to School (KITS) is one of United Way’s “Promise Neighborhoods” strategies. KITS is a free sixteen week program where children learn skills such as sharing, lining up and taking turns. Parents learn valuable information about setting routines and being involved in their child’s education.

Turn a young life around by joining your neighbors and friends on one day as we go door-todoor distributing information about KITS, school registrations, and other community resources. Our aim is to double last year’s enrollment number and increase the number of families attending kindergarten registration.
