Update: Student Success Act

By now, many of you have heard about additional funding coming to K-12 schools next year from Oregon’s Student Success Act (SSA.) This is exciting news! I want to share Bethel School District’s process for determining where those additional funds will be directed. Our process and plan is guided by requirements of the Act, these items in particular:

  • Equity*
  • Engagement
  • Accountability
    • Meet Students’ Mental or Behavioral Health Needs
    • Increase Achievement

*A strong focus in equity has been defined by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) as:

  • “Education equity is the equitable implementation of policy, practices, procedures, and legislation that translates into resource allocation, education rigor, and opportunities for historically and currently marginalized youth, students, and families including civil rights protected classes.”

The ODE is directing districts to reexamine our systems and processes with a goal of closing the achievement gap among our students.

Where To Start

Our process begins with Continue reading

October Walk & Roll

Gear Up for the October Walk + Roll!

This October, our school is participating in the Walk + Roll to School Challenge. Malabon will be participating in the Walk + Roll Challenge on October 2nd . Our goal is to encourage as many students as possible to increase their physical activity by using active transportation modes like walking, biking, scooting, skating, etc.

For some families, it really is too far to walk to school every day. Don’t worry, your family can still participate in the Walk + Roll to School Challenge. If you live a long way from school, you could Park ‘n’ Stride instead. Ms. Spence will meet students at Peterson Barn at 7:30 a.m. on October 2nd and walk them to school. For those riding bikes, a staff member will ride along with that group from Peterson Barn. Parents are encouraged to join us with either the walk or ride to school.

We have great incentives and prizes to encourage our students to get active!

All student that walk or roll to school on October 2nd  will be entered into a raffle for a wide variety of prizes.

Interested in helping with this year’s Walk + Roll to School Challenge? Please contact Tammy Edwards at 541-520-2380.
