Bethel Farm receives $6,400 donation from NW Farm Credit Services

Volunteers from the Northwest Farm Credit Services joined Kalapuya students to lend a hand for the fall harvest on the farm. Together they pulled more than 500 pounds of beets out of the ground and hauled in over 1,000 pounds of squash from the fields. Pressing apples into fresh cider was a bonus at the end of the day – as was the surprise presentation of a check for $6,400 (though their 100% Committed project) to support the Bethel Farm!

Art Blooms At The Farm

Esteban Camacho finishes installing his mural with Danielle Kinkebiel (Huerto de la Familia) and Ethan Bottensek (Kalapuya student), The Abundant Web, at the Bethel Farm.

An incredible mural is now on permanent display at the Bethel Farm, courtesy of a young, local artist.

Esteban Camacho received funding from the Art Bridges Foundation to create “The Abundant Web.”

The mural shows people above ground and the workings below the surface, and the inter-connectedness of people with the earth.

Camacho had a hand with this piece. Kalapuya High School students and families from Huerto de la Familia, who have a community garden plot at the Farm, helped paint some of the base colors.

After being on display at the UO’s Schnitzer Museum of Art all summer, the mural is now a permanent feature of the Bethel Farm, making a wonderful place even more beautiful.

Long Term Planning & State Testing Information

Long Term Planning Committee

The Bethel School District is convening a Long Term Planning Committee to look at demographic trends within the district to make sure we are well positioned to meet the future needs of our student population. This committee will likely meet five times over the course of the year to gather information and make recommendations. Parents and community members who might be interested can contact Stefan Aumack (stefan.aumack@bethel.k12.or.us) to get more information.

Information About State Tests

Each spring, Oregon students in grades 3-8 and 11 participate in state assessments in English Language Arts and Math. Additionally, students in grades 5, 8 and 11 participate in science testing. Bethel has always had a high participation rate on state assessments as both parents and staff have found value in this “point-in-time” check on the progress of our students and our educational system. However, parents in Oregon have the option to opt their children out of the state assessments. Click here for more information. (PDF)

(PDF)

New Location for Free Farmers Market

New Location For Bethel Free Farmers Market

The weekly Bethel Free Farmers Market has provided free vegetables, bread, and dairy products to Bethel residents since the start of 2013.

Now the Free Farmers Market is relocating from Cascade Middle School to the Bethel Farm, behind Prairie Mountain School.  This will allow the Farm to provide more of its own free, completely fresh vegetables (grown by Kalapuya students) to market-goers.

The free food will be available every Tuesday from noon-4:00 p.m., beginning September 10th.

To reach the Bethel Farm, turn from Royal Avenue onto Patriot Way and drive behind Prairie Mountain School. Be sure to park in the Farm’s gravel parking area.
