In an effort to give back to the community, eleven members of EWEB’s Human Resources department visited Kalapuya on a Monday morning to share valuable insights and opportunities with students. During an entire-school assembly, EWEB members shared general workplace readiness skillsets students should consider bringing into any job, and identified specific EWEB career pathways possible for students.

After meeting with the entire student body, the EWEB team worked specifically with graduating seniors to conduct mock interviews, providing coaching and feedback to students who had earlier in the week prepared for their visit.

The building was abuzz after students learned of apprenticeship programs and journeyman wages, and several students began angling immediately for an opportunity to get experience at and work toward a career with EWEB. After experiencing success last year with a pilot internship program, we are excited to continue to introduce more students to multiple career paths through internship experiences in the various departments at EWEB.

The Kalapuya culture of excellence would not be sustainable without committed community partners willing to envision brighter futures for our students. EWEB’s significant investment of time and energy spent with our student body was greatly appreciated and had an immediate impact on students.

Bethel Schools Closed Thursday

All Bethel schools will be closed Thursday, December 12, due to road conditions.

All afternoon and evening activities are cancelled and will be rescheduled.

Please watch the local news, check the Bethel website, Twitter and Facebook or look for a FlashAlert message for updates on Bethel schools’ status.

Student safety continues to be our priority and schools will only reopen when it is believed that travel is safe enough throughout our district.

School Closure Update

Check in the morning to learn whether Bethel schools will be closed Thursday.

Due to the slowly improving weather and road conditions, Bethel will resume its regular practice of evaluating road conditions early in the morning on Thursday, December 12 before determining whether it is safe enough to open schools.

If school is cancelled an announcement will be made before 6:00 a.m. Thursday. Please watch the local news, check the Bethel website, Twitter and Facebook or look for a FlashAlert message with a morning update on Thursday’s status.

If you don’t hear anything about Bethel on the local news it means school is operating normally.

Student safety continues to be our priority and schools will only reopen when it is believed that travel is safe enough throughout our district.

Bethel Schools Closed Wednesday

Kalapuya and all Bethel Schools will be closed Tuesday, December 10th.

Kalapuya and all Bethel Schools will be closed Wednesday, December 11th.

In the interest of student safety Bethel School District will be closed again Wednesday, December 11.

All afternoon and evening activities are cancelled and will be rescheduled.

Most neighborhood streets are still packed with snow and ice. Bethel drivers took buses on the streets Tuesday and confirmed that buses could not operate safely on neighborhood roads, even at very slow speeds.

A little bit of melting has occurred, but refreezing overnight is likely to make the roads even slicker. Overall road conditions are not expected to improve much, if at all, by Wednesday morning and student safety remains the #1 concern, so school has been cancelled.

We will continue to monitor road conditions closely in the hope that we can resume school soon.

Many parents and students have asked if the snow days this week mean that we will need to add school days later in the year. Bethel has more than two days built into its school year schedule for this type of situation.

However, having not yet even reached the first day of winter we will need to wait to determine how many snow days are used before make-up days are scheduled. All families and students will be notified well in advance should days be added back to the calendar.

Thank you for your patience as we seek to make the best decisions for Bethel students.

Meanwhile, weather-related school closures can be confirmed from these sources:
