PTO Meeting Change
We have moved our May 9^th PTO meeting to the 7^th at 7:00pm. Please plan to join us (FREE childcare provided) as we plan our May Jog-A-Thon and look forward to ideas for the coming year. We will be in the cafeteria.

Our First Star Student Extravaganza Coming Soon
Students who do not have a behavior mark from April 22^nd to May 3^rd will attend the Star Student Extravaganza on May 3^rd. We will have drawings for prizes, listen to music as we play games and have a treat. It is a way of showing our appreciation to all of those kids (most of the school will be there) who try hard and follow the school and class rules each and every day.

Watch for Jog-A-Thon Info coming home May 3^rd
Students will attend a brief assembly on May 3^rd to hear about this year’s Jog-A-Thon. The event is a fundraiser to help the CL PTO. This year’s J-A-T will be Wednesday, May 15 at 1:30pm. Our PTO has been so generous over the years to provide money for class field trips, playground equipment, support OBOB, fund the 4/5 Track program, pay for the School Garden Project, and much more. Parents: Watch for the info and see how YOU can join in and help the PTO earn up to $250 by walking/jogging laps. ProSource Construction has generously offered to donate $1 per lap for every parent participating.

Boltage Parent Focus Group May 7^th
Please come to the cafeteria on Tuesday, May 7, 6:00 – 7:00pm and join the Focus Group around promoting walking and biking to school. The Boltage program is a research program done at the U of O underway in some Eugene 4J and Bethel schools. Currently, CL and Cascade Middle School are the Bethel schools hosting the program. Come to the meeting on the 7^th and find out more information.

Grease On Willamette Stage
Here is a great opportunity for the whole family. Willamette High School’s Drama program will stage its production of Grease this week, complete with a live band in the orchestra pit. A fun and engaging family show, Grease features music from the 50’s including the songs Summer Nights and Greased Lightnin’.

Grease will be on Willamette’s stage Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, May 2 – 4, at 7:00. Tickets are $5 for Students and Staff, $7 General Admission.

Greetings Staff and Families, here is the latest from Clear Lake.

PTO Needs YOU
Thursday, April 18 at 6:45 is our next PTO meeting in the school cafeteria. Our current President, ABE Gilliam, is stepping down. We need parents who have some time and energy to help with the various PTO activities around the school. Please come to the meeting on the 18^th and hear how we can organize our PTO so that no one parent is doing all of the work! All we need are a few folks who are willing to work as a team. FREE childcare is provided at PTO meetings.

Farm To School Underway
Clear Lake is participating in Farm To School education as part of a grant received by the Willamette Farm and Food Coalition. The goal is for students and families to learn about the local sources of food produced by growers in the area and how Bethel Schools purchase much of the fresh fruit and vegetables from local growers. Students will have an opportunity to visit farms and learn how crops are grown, harvested, and eventually a part of their meals at school or home.

There will be a FREE field trip for families to visit the Eugene Farmer’s market on Saturday, May 18. You’ll meet at Clear Lake Elementary at 10:00am and ride a school bus to the Lane County Farmers Market (8^th & Oak).  You’ll tour the farmers market, visit the fruit and vegetable stands and enjoy a free snack.  Participants will be provided with a $5 coupon to use at the farmers market and an additional coupon to take home.

Grade 4/5 Track Off And Running
Students in grades 4 & 5 who have submitted their registration forms are participating in track & field events under the supervision of coach Sherry Martinell. Mrs. Martinell returns for her 4^th year as our track coach. There will be 2 track meets at Willamette High School where all elementary schools are in attendance. The practice and meet calendar link can be found on the CL home page, at the top right under “Clear Lake Links.”

Greenhouse Helpers Welcome
Spring is here and it’s time to start some plant seedlings. If you have a green thumb and are willing to come to the school for a few minutes each day to help keep the greenhouse items watered and growing, send me an email or call and we will certainly use your help. You will also enjoy some of the plant starts for your own to take home.

Family Fun Night is coming up on Thursday the 21st, 6:30 – 8:00pm. One of the traditional events is the raffling of theme baskets put together with items donated by students’ families. Please send your item(s) with your child as their class puts together a basket to benefit our CL PTO.

Help Our Healthy Moves Program- Supporting Our Supporters
Healthy Moves is providing professional fitness trainers as Clear Lake P.E. instructors at no cost to us. Now we can say thanks by buying coffee as a Healthy Moves fundraiser. The Original Firehouse Coffee Company next to Winco will donate half its sales to Healthy Moves on Saturday, March 16^th between 3:00-7:00 p.m. Enjoy a delicious coffee drink and support continued fitness opportunities for our kids.

CL Kindergarteners Thank Airport Rotary

Kindergarten students thanks the Rotary volunteers.

The local Eugene Airport Rotary gathered in the Bethel boardroom this last Wednesday morning to prepare books for every school’s upcoming Kindergarten orientation. For the 5th year, the Rotary Club provides every incoming K student with their own book, Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready For Kindergarten. The book is used in the K class during the Fall and students LOVE the fact that they have the book at home and have read it (or had it read to them). The Rotary also supports the district’s Literacy Program as well as Cascade’s Band Program and provides WHS scholarships. The K students paraded through the board room saying thans to the Rotary volunteers who prepared the books for this year’s orientation sessions. Ours is Wed. the 13th at either 3:15 or 6:30pm.

Mr. Gingery & Mrs. Ewing’s classes lead- The BoxTops Drive Continues
Please help the school by sending in BoxTops for Education coupons. Students are asked to bring in their BoxTops coupons found on the packaging of most General Mills Products. Please check to see that their expiration date has not passed. Cut them out, put them in an envelope or baggie and send them to school. Each class will have a container and collect as many as possible for the next two weeks. So far, Mr Gingery and Mrs Ewing’s classes are in the lead with collections. Last year’s drive earned the school a check for over $800. Ask your friends, neighbors, relatives if they have any to give and help CL.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss Today is Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Take the time to have your child read something aloud to you as a celebration of reading. Reading is one of the most important- if not THE MOST IMPORTANT- skill a person can learn. All of a person’s future and potential for success are influenced by the ability to read. So, Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss, and… don’t forget to remember or thank a teacher you had in your past if you are reading this!

BoxTops For Education Drive Starts Monday Starting Monday the 4th, students are asked to bring in their BoxTops for Education coupons found on the packaging of most General Mills Products. Please check to see that their expiration date has not passed. Cut them out, put them in an envelope or baggie and send them to school. Each class will have a container and collect as many as possible for the next two weeks. Last year’s drive earned the school a check for over $800. Ask your friends, neighbors, relatives if they have any to give and help CL.

Family Fun Night Coming March 21st The annual Family Fun Night is coming March 21st, 6:30 – 8:00 pm. There will be Free ice cream, Free Bingo with prizes, and Free carnival games for the kids. There will be a 50/50 drawing and raffle baskets. The Clear Lake PTO puts on the event each year as a fun, FREE event for our families. Keeping to tradition, we ask students to contribute to their class raffle basket. The baskets will be raffled at the end of bingo at 8pm. We need Parent Helpers for Clean Up at 8:00pm. If you are able to come and help, please call the school at 689-0511. Clean up help is usually done by 8:30pm.

OBOB Team Ready For Battle

The Mysterious Mustachios (from L to R; Jeff, Aleesia, Luke, Andrew, and Carter) are ready to represent CL.

The Mysterious Mustachios, Clear Lake’s winning OBOB team will move on to regional competition next Saturday the 9th at North Eugene HS. The team has been hard at work practicing on questions about the 16 book titles selected for this year. Each of the team members ready a few of the books and are the team “experts” on those titles. So, when judges ask a question during competition, the team huddles and has 30 seconds to come up with an answer. That’s why it is such a team effort. Good Luck to the Mysterious Mustachios as they take on teams from other schools in our area OBOB region.

Greetings Families, Staff, and Students- here’s the latest from CL:

Help a Bethel/Clear Lake Family
The Brown Family has five children at Bethel Schools- two of the boys attend Clear Lake, the other three at Prairie Mountain. Three of the boys are afflicted with a genetic condition known as Hurler’s Syndrome. The condition causes major health problems and a significantly reduced life expectancy. The boys will likely not live to their ‘teens. This fundraising effort is to help the family with medical expenses as the boys need ongoing treatments at OHSU in Portland.

Tomorrow- Monday the 18th- is a fundraising day at Pappy’s Pizza Parlor on Barger Drive, next to WinCo Foods. Print THIS FLYER and take it with you on Monday when you order food. Half of the proceeds will go to The family. Or, you can make a donation directly to the family at any Oregon Community Credit Union, to “The Brown Family Fund.” Thank you for any help you might give to the family.

Desserts for Dreams
Tickets are still available for the “Desserts for Dreams”. This special event is Friday the 22nd, 12:30 p.m. at the Eugene Hilton, and is a benefit for the Bethel Education Foundation

A $30 ticket gets you a light salad buffet, lots of decadent desserts, coffee, tea, wine & champagne, and a chance to win a loose-cut 1/2 carat diamond. A terrific raffle is also being held.

Recycling Round-Up
Your old computers, phones, TVs, electronics, household and other reusable items can now find a new home. Recycle them for free at Willamette High School’s 4^th annual Recycling Round-Up.

Bring your household items to Willamette on Saturday the 23^rd, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Your junk is treasure to the folks at NextStep Recycling and St. Vincent de Paul, who will gladly reuse or recycle everything gathered by Wil-Hi’s National Honor Society students. Here’s a list.
