Upcoming Events and Information

PTO Meeting Wednesday

Irving parents are invited to the PTO meeting tomorrow night in the Irving Library from 6:30-7:30pm.  The meeting is a great way to find out about opportunities to volunteer and upcoming school events.  Looking forward to seeing families tomorrow night!

Cold/Flu Season

If you think your child has the flu, the following will help you and help prevent others from getting sick:

  • Stay at home for 24 hours until after fever has resolved without the aid of fever reducing medicines (e.g., Advil or Tylenol)
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when sick. Maintain distance from other people to prevent the spread of illness.
  • Wash hands often with soap and hot water for at least 20 seconds. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are also helpful in reducing the spread of the flu.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with tissues or by coughing into the inside of the elbow. Wash hands after blowing the nose or coughing into a tissue, and dispose of tissues after use.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth to prevent the spread of germs.
  • Get the flu vaccine! The flu vaccine is the best way to prevent seasonal flu.

Dogs on Campus

I am asking all families to use their best judgement as responsible dog owners when bringing their dogs on campus.  Everyone has their own comfort level around dogs.  Some students may be afraid of dogs while others not. Please think of the impact on other individuals prior to bringing your dog on campus.  If you are bringing your dog on campus at arrival or dismissal time we ask that your dog be on a leash at all times.  If you are unsure in any way about your dog’s behavior around people on a busy campus or around other animals then please refrain from bringing your pet onto school grounds.  Thank you in helping to keep Irving a safe and welcoming campus!

Debbi Holte received two BEF Grants for her fifth grade students!

Bethel Education Foundation Grant Winners at Irving

Congratulations to Debbi Holte, Karen Ferguson, and Erin Moss in receiving Bethel Education Foundation Grants! Cheers and tears greeted Bethel Education Foundation representatives as they handed out more than $36,000 in grants to dozens of Bethel educators.  The BEF will be funding a variety of exciting and innovative projects to benefit Bethel students at all grade levels, everything from technology to trips and rockets to robots.

The educators didn’t know that the BEF was coming, but they heard the small group of 6th grade Shasta band students marching down the hall leading the grant parade into their classrooms.  The band members included three former Irving students!  Thank you Cael Petersen, Olivia Morris, and Andrew Bowman for showing off your amazing musical talents!

The BEF has been raising funds to support teachers’ special projects for seven years!

While conditions on the main roads have improved overnight, the neighborhood streets and sidewalks – and school parking lots – remain covered with ice and slush.
