Update to Mr. James: Principal’s Email (4/10/2012)
Parents, Families, and Friends,
Lost and Found: . Thanks to Ronda Hatefi for gathering the piles of clothing that were put out for parents during Conferences. If your child has lost an item of clothing since conferences, they are in the hallway into the cafeteria by the music room. Clothing items that are remaining at the end of the year will be donated to Bethel clothes Closet.
Composting at Irving: If you have walked through our campus, you will notice three large wooden boxes between the K/1 and 4/5 pods. These are our new composting bins and that area is the spot of our future garden. Earlier this year we were awarded about $2,000 for a school garden. Not only will this project provide the physical garden space, it will also provide education around planting, putting a garden to sleep, maintaining soil, and composting. So far our students have learned about what composting is and what exactly we will be composting each day. Each day, they dump their leftover fruits and veggies into the lunchroom container, and our composting fairies take them down to the garden bins. If you are interested in being a parent helper or garden volunteer, please send me an email and let me know.
Irving School Report Card
Report Cards For Schools
Due to a change in state rules, we are now able to email our State School Report Cards to you. This will save the school district money, although paper copies will also be available at the Irving school office for those who request a hard copy.
You will see that Irving students continued to make gains in reading and are well above the state average. You may also recall that Oregon recently raised the bar on what kids are expected to learn in math at each grade level. Nevertheless, our students again showed substantial improvement and remain far above the state average.
Not willing to be satisfied with being named an Outstanding School on the state report card, we’ve already been implementing several new programs to further improve student learning in math. These include Math Facts Fluency and Bethel’s teacher-developed Math Core Units.
Click here. Finally, thank you for staying involved in your child’s education. Your active attention and support really makes a difference at each grade level. As always, feel free to email or call me.
