Counselor’s Corner

January 2020

Welcome Back and Happy 2020!

I wanted to, once again, thank the amazing Irving community for support of the Irving’s Holiday Help Gift Card Program this year.  Additionally, we raised 159 POUNDS of food for FOOD for Lane County!  The Irving Community’s generosity the past few months has been phenomenal!  Those helped this season were incredibly grateful and we at Irving sincerely thank you all.

In counseling lessons this month, we are focusing on: celebrating diversity and commonalities (Kindergarten), personal space (1st grade), dealing with frustration (2nd grade), bullying prevention (3rd grade) and diversity (4th and 5th grades).

In a couple of weeks, we will begin a new round of skill-building groups for all grades.  The emphases of these groups are: Changing Families for K-2 and 3-5, a Girls Leadership Group (5th grade), using material from Ophelia’s Place and a 4th grade friendship group.  These groups will continue meeting through March.

As always, please check-in with your child to hear the latest regarding our classroom guidance visits!

Irving Green Team (Grades 3rd-5th)

Is your 3rd-5th grade student interested in:

  • Helping improve our school through reducing our ecological footprint (reducing our cafeteria waste, paper consumption, and electricity usage)?
  • Learning more about composting at our school?
  • Would you like to help teach other students about composting and reducing school waste (paper, materials, supplies, electricity)?

If so, the Irving Green Team wants to invite them to participate!

The Green Team will be led by Mrs. Moss and the team will work throughout the year to create school-wide campaigns to reduce waste, train our students & staff in waste reduction, and have fun while doing it!

Interested 3rd-5th Grade students should come to our kick-off meeting on Friday January 17th at 8am in Room 11 (Mrs. Moss Room)

The Irving Green Team will meet every Friday at 8:00am in Room 11

We are in need of parent volunteers who would be interested in helping in our efforts this year to improve our school. Please contact Mrs. Moss ( if you’re interested.
