Student Safety Alert

Student Safety Alert

We are sharing the following information at the recommendation of Eugene Police.

Around 12:30 today, Tuesday April 4th, a man in a white SUV allegedly tried to kidnap a young woman who was on foot near Everyone’s Market on Echo Hollow Road.

The young woman – who is not a student – managed to escape and is safe and unharmed, but police want everyone to be aware of their surroundings and keep an eye out for a white GMC Yukon with tinted windows.

Again, no one was harmed but students are asked to be especially aware of their surroundings.

Irving News and Information

Irving elementary featuring security fenceIrving Families,

Construction of the new security fence at Irving is now complete. Thanks to the careful spending of the Bethel Bond measure funds, the district had the ability to make it happen. This powder-coated iron perimeter fence will give us the ability to funnel all visitors through the front office, which is the standard protocol for all modern day schools.

The fence gives our school a slightly different look, which will take some getting used to, but we are grateful for the measure of security that it provides for our students, staff and visitors.

For students arriving to school in the morning from the back neighborhood, there will be two gates unlocked for students to enter. The gate near the 4th grade classrooms and the gate nearest the basketball court/Music room. Once the school day starts the gates will then be locked.

Additionally the two gates nearest the breezeway in front of the school and north gym will be open for 2nd and 3rd grade students in the morning. Once the school day starts the gates will be locked.

During the school day the only gates that will be unlocked will be the front main gates. As is always the protocol all visitors must sign in at the office prior to going to classrooms or other areas of the school.

The small south parking lot will not be used for student drop off or pick up during school hours 7:30am-4:00pm. The south parking lot will be for Irving and Afterschool Club Staff only. To ensure the safety of students, all drop off and pick up of students will occur in the main parking lot where there is supervision.

If you are dropping off your student in the morning we are asking you to use the main parking lot. If you are picking up in the afternoon we are also asking you use the main parking lot. If you wish to walk your student to class please park in the main parking lot.

Kindergarten and First grade teachers walk their students to the front of the school for dismissal. This practice will stay the same. All other students will walk to the front of the school for dismissal. Some students have bikes in the back nearest the playground. 2nd-5th students may exit gates to get their bikes and go home.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we learn to navigate our new fence!
