Writing

Bethel School District is committed to raising writers. Our highly trained teachers follow a rigorous writing curriculum beginning in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Because of a strong emphasis on writing, we hope our students will grow up considering themselves both readers and writers.

By “mapping” our writing instruction K-8, we can be sure that students will progress through focused instruction throughout their years in our schools. If we all agree on what good writing is, we can better help our students produce it. If we all focus on the goal of raising writers, we don’t have to “start over from scratch” every year; likewise, if we all use the same language when we talk about writing, students will be able to apply concepts across grade levels and disciplines. By using a consolidated district map, we can make sure that our writing instruction spirals with increasing levels of challenge. We can eliminate gaps and “overlaps” in curriculum and give our students the best possible writing instruction.
