Kindergarten,1st and 2nd Grade Teachers, the University of Oregon’s Center on Teaching and Learning, along with computer game designers at Thought Cycle, are interested in your experience and preferences for using technology in the classroom.
Your response to the following survey will help with the development and study of a computer-based math intervention game designed to support students learning whole number concepts. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes and once completed you will receive a $5 gift card for participating. The first 25 teachers to respond will receive a $10 gift card.
Your participation is voluntary and the risks for participating are minimal. Your responses will be kept confidential. You will be asked to provide consent to participate when you access this UO Survey.
Eugene Public Works Offers History Lessons
Let the History Hunt begin.
Teachers, are you looking for local historical information? Eugene Public Works Department has a new link on its website called, Hunting for History, created to celebrate Eugene’s 150th anniversary. It includes historical videos about the Eugene area including, Hunting for History Part 1: Skinner’s Donation Land Claim, The Kalapuya Talking Stones, Eugene’s Graveyard Stories and others.
Eugene Public Works also offers online classroom materials . The City of Eugene has prepared two distinct stormwater curricula tied to state benchmarks with emphasis on Willamette Valley waterways. Curriculum materials are included for Splash, Salmon and the Ecosystem, and Lily’s pages.
Another fun opportunity for Bethel students is the Eugene Public Works Day which will be held on May 16. Students who attend this annual event will have the chance to see and touch big equipment and learn more about Public Works services.

Coming Events and Opportunities: These workshops are free for members and cost $5 each for nonmembers. PDU certificates awarded.
February 25: Responding to Children’s Literature with Depth and Complexity presented by Karren Timmermans. Using variations of the Cinderella tale as examples, Karren will share strategies to help students describe their thinking and understand the text in complex ways by applying the dimensions of depth and complexity. This will allow teachers to differentiate for all learners and deepen their gifted readers’ understanding of the worlds in which Cinderella lives. Strategies can be adapted for K-2 readers.
SPRING EERC PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP
April 22: Celebrate National Poetry Month with Poetry for All presented by Nanci Strickland. Nanci will share poetry for reading and for writing along with a wonderful list of children’s poetry books. Lots of activities to try with your students.
These workshops are from 4–6 at the Lane ESD. For more detailed information about these workshops download a flyer. Free for members, $5 each for nonmembers.
ORA WINTER INSTITUTE, FEBRUARY 8-9
There will be two all-day concurrent sessions on Friday the 8th. Lori Oczkus will present for grades K-6 while Harvey “Smokey” Daniels will lead the secondary (6-12) session. On Saturday the 9th there will be five different time periods with a total of 20 smaller sessions from which to choose. Here is more information or download a flyer and registration form.

The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) final public review is now open. This draft of the NGSS will be available for feedback until January 29th.
This is the last public review period before the standards are completed in March. We fully encourage all interested parties to review the draft NGSS as individuals or in groups and provide feedback to the Lead States and writers.
