News For Incoming Kindergarten Students

Now in its 5th year, the Kindergarten Smart Start program is a carefully designed process intended to ensure a successful transition into kindergarten for your child.

During the first week of school, your child will attend school one day. During the second week of school, from Monday through Thursday, your child will attend school on a staggered start, a half-day either in the morning or afternoon. This will enable kindergarten staff to:

  • Introduce your child to school in small groups with a supportive team of educators
  • Teach expectations and routines as they learn about recess on the playground
  • Teach cafeteria procedures as they eat lunch
  • Assess students in academic areas and school readiness activities in small groups
  • Meet with families to learn more about your child
  • Determine classroom assignments to best meet the educational needs of every child

Smart Start also allows time for you to meet with your child’s kindergarten teacher before the school year begins. At this meeting, you can help the teacher get to know your child and ask any questions you may have about the upcoming school year.

During registration, you will sign up for a time to meet with your child’s classroom teacher on Thursday, September 5th or Friday, September 6th and indicate a preference for either the morning or afternoon for staggered start the second week of school (September 9-13).  Your school will notify you of the exact time of your parent/teacher meeting and confirm your staggered start time.

Danebo Students are True Musicians

Students in grades Kindergarten, First, Fourth and Fifth had the opportunity to work with local artist Peter Wilde through the Lane Arts Council Artists in Residence program.

During their music classes, students wrote songs, added instruments to the songs, then recorded the songs.

Here is the link to access the music that students recorded:

https://writemysong.bandcamp.com/releases

When you click on the link, you will be asked how much you’d like to donate (before you access the music). You can enter a dollar amount if you’d like to support the Lane Arts Council (and in turn, support Artists in Residence in Bethel) OR you can enter $0 in the donation box and continue to access the songs.

Report Cards

Student report cards will be mailed home after the grading day on Thursday, June 19th.

Safety Drills at Danebo

Students and staff at Danebo spent time this week practicing safety drills in the form of lock-down, earthquake, and fire drills. Students practiced the different types of drills throughout the week and today (Friday, May 31st) at 10:50, we practiced the three drills school-wide.

We started with a lock-down drill, followed by an earthquake drill and ended the drills with all students and staff evacuating the building in the same manner we would if there was an actual earthquake (out the south end of the building with all students and staff in the baseball field/track area).

It is important for all students and staff to practice the safety drills so that we are prepared in the event that there is an actual emergency. Today’s drills went as planned with students and staff successfully completing the drills.

If you have questions regarding our safety drills, please contact your child’s teacher.

Online Registration for Current Danebo Families

Current Danebo families will have the opportunity to complete the majority of the registration process for the 2019-20 school year starting June 3rd.

Watch for an email from me by early next week with information on how to access the registration website.

In addition, we know that some families would like to complete registration on a computer (instead of a phone or tablet), so we will have office staff available for assistance as well as having our computer lab open on Wednesday, June 5th, from 3:30-6:00.

If you are unable to complete the registration process next week, you will be invited to come to Danebo on August 7th and 8th between 11:00 am and 7:00 pm.

If you have questions, please contact Tami or Krisia in our office at 541-688-8735.

Assistance League Food Pantry

Today, Friday, May 31st, is the final day of our Assistance League Food Pantry here at Danebo.

We have been very fortunate to have the partnership of the Assistance League for two years and we are very grateful for the help they have provided to our families on a weekly basis.

We are hopeful that the program will continue at Danebo next school year. If you have accessed the food pantry and would like to thank the Assistance League, you can drop off a note in the school office and we will gladly forward it to them.

Many thanks to the amazing volunteers at the Assistance League who come in weekly to facilitate the food pantry for Danebo students and families!
