News for 5th Grade Families

Danebo Families,

Below is a note from Mr. James, Principal at Shasta, regarding important events for families:

Future Shasta Families,

There are two upcoming dates where you can hear more about Shasta Middle School.

Opportunity #1: On May 15th (6:30 pm) I will be in the Danebo library talking about and answering questions regarding middle School.  This is your chance to get questions answered regarding your child’s transition to Shasta next school year.  Please plan on joining me in the library at 6:30 p.m.

Opportunity #2: On May 21st there is a sixth grade parent night at Shasta Middle School (6:00pm-6:30pm). After the informational piece, you will have the opportunity to visit our PTO table, check-out our project faire, enjoy some BBQ, listen to our jazz band, and potentially win big at our silent auction.

I hope to see you at both of these events!

Greg James

Principal

Shasta Middle School

Bag Collection Pays Off!

AlbertsonsDanebo recently received gift cards totalling $500 from our local Albertsons store. Danebo came in 4th place  in our recent grocery bag ban awareness collection drive. Special thanks to store director, Perry Tendick, for allowing Danebo to participate in this 10-school contest and to all you bag collectors out there who sent in your bags! We will put the money to good use during the holidays to help families in need.

News From Danebo’s Principal

Hello Danebo Families!

It’s mid-May and our school calendars are packed with great learning activities for our students.  Below is information about things going on at Danebo and in the District:

Celebrating Danebo Teachers

This week is National Teacher Appreciation Week and our Danebo Support Staff and PTO have been celebrating our teachers!  If you haven’t had a chance to thank your child’s teacher, a simple note, e-mail or quick phone call means a great deal to a teacher.  We have an amazing staff here at Danebo, so please join me in thanking them for ALL they do for our students.

Danebo Celebration–May 16th

SAVE THE DATE! Our annual Danebo Celebration will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 next Thursday.  Join us for fun carnival-like activities and snacks.  It’s a great community celebration and one that we all look forward to each year.  If you are able to volunteer an hour, please contact the school office (541-688-8735) and we’ll be sure to put you to work!

Calling All Kinders for Fall 2013

If you have a child who will be 5 on or before September 1st and you have not been in to the school office to begin the registration process, please do so.  We will get information from you so that we can be sure to include you in our August registration information.

Moving Soon?

If you know that your child will not be attending Danebo next school year, please be sure to let the school office know.  We try to keep track of which students will be returning each year and it is very helpful to know if your plans have changed and your child won’t be with us.  Just give our office a call (541-688-8735) and let us know.  Thanks!

News from Around Bethel:

Show n’ Shine

The weather should be perfect for a Bethel tradition. Come see the 15th annual Bethel Boosters Show n’ Shine this Saturday. It will fill the parking lot at Willamette High School with the area’s best classic cars. This car show is free to the public and only costs a few dollars for those who want to show off their wheels. For more information email the Boosters. The Show n’ Shine is the largest fundraiser for the Bethel Boosters, the hard-working volunteer group that supports students and school programs by helping with field trips, music, clubs, events, technology, athletics and more in every Bethel school.

Health Center Celebration

Stop by the Bethel Health Center to help celebrate its second anniversary. The Health Center’s Open House is next Wednesday, May 15th from 4:00-6:00. This is a full-service medical clinic for Bethel kids and has already helped more than 400 Bethel students this school year with a wide variety of medical concerns. Show your support of the Health Center and grab one of the tasty treats available at the Open House. The Bethel Health Center is located inside Cascade Middle School but has its own outside entrance.

Whooping Cough Vaccine

Yes, Whooping Cough is on the rise in our community. It spreads easily and can cause violent coughing fits that can last up to 10 weeks or more. The DTaP vaccine helps prevent this potentially life-threatening illness. Now a special one-time DTap Clinic for uninsured adults age 19 and up is being held at the Bethel Health Center, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14th. Call Heather Young at 541-682-8711 for more information.

News from Danebo’s Principal

Dear Danebo Families,

Welcome to the last 11 weeks of school for the 2012-2013 school year.  Danebo teachers have many great learning activities planned, both in and out of the classroom.  Our five day weeks will be full of learning activities to continue our pursuit of ensuring that all Danebo students are receiving the necessary skills to be college or career ready upon graduating from high school.  Thanks for helping your child with this pursuit by ensuring that they are at school every day for the remainder of the school year.  Together we can provide a great learning opportunity for your child’s educational success!

Below are a few upcoming opportunities taking place at Danebo and around the District:

Students Persevere Through OAKS Testing

Students in grades 3 through 5 are persevering through OAKS reading, math and science tests.  They are putting their best efforts into showing what they know about the subjects and they are implementing many of the key learning strategies taught by Danebo teachers.  You can help your child be successful on their OAKS tests by making sure that they are well rested and have had breakfast in the morning.  Both are key factors that assist with student sucess in State testing.

Send in those plastic bags…

Perry Tendick, Store Manager, selected Danebo to participate in a contest to see which school (Danebo or Fairfield) can collect the most weight in plastic bags for a few weeks.  The contest will continue through next week, ending on April 19th, and has the potential to earn Danebo valuable prizes through Albertsons.  We have collection bags in our front office OR you can take them directly to Albertsons on Royal and designate them for Danebo.  Thanks for your support!

Danebo PTO Meeting on Tuesday, April 16th at 6:30 p.m.

We need your voice to chime in on some ideas for upcoming events including the spring fundraiser and the Danebo Celebration.  We will meet in the library at 6:30 p.m. and free childcare is provided.  I hope to see you there!

Calling All Volunteers…

We’re celebrating volunteers at Danebo by hosting a luncheon at school on Thursday, April 25th.  Invitations will be coming home soon for all parents and guardians who helped at Danebo throughout the school year.  Volunteers are invited to join students for lunch in the cafeteria between 11:35 and 12:15 on that day with special desserts for our special guests.  We rely on our school volunteers and hope that we can show our appreciation on the 26th.

Speaking of Volunteers…

We will need your help at the Danebo Celebration on Thursday, May 16th, so please SAVE THE DATE!  Our theme is “Activities and Fun from Around the World”.  Your help is needed on that night as well as by sending in donations for baskets to be raffled off on the evening of the Celebration.   Keep watching for more information to be coming home in Tuesday folders and feel free to contact the office at 541-688-8735 if you are available to help.

4th and 5th Grade Track

Each  Monday and Wednesday for the next few weeks, students in grade 4 and 5 are joining Mr. Smith from 2:45 to 4:00 to practice for track and field events.  Thursday, April 25th is the first elementary track meet at Willamette starting at 4:00.  Thanks to Mr. Smith for coordinating the Danebo track program–our kids have a GREAT experience and enjoy every minute of it!

Thanks for keeping up on the Danebo Happenings!  I look forward to seeing you at the PTO meeting on Tuesday!

Mari

News from Danebo’s Principal

Hi Danebo Families,

It seems as though spring is on it’s way.  What a beautiful week we had last week!  Below are a few important pieces of information for Danebo families:

Report Cards Home on Tuesday, March 19th

Teachers will be sending home student report cards in Tuesday folders on March 19th.  Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher if you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s report card.  This is a great time to note student progress and set goals for a strong finish of the school year!

PTO Meets on Tuesday, March 19th at 6:30 p.m.

Please join us to talk about the upcoming Danebo Celebration (May 17th), our spring fundraiser, and other ideas that you might have to share.  Childcare is provided in the cafeteria and your child will receive a homework pass for your attendance.  Hope to see you there!

Grades 4/5 Music Performance on Thursday, March 21st

A HUGE thank you to Julie Stowell, guest music teacher, for her efforts in putting together a 4th and 5th grade music performance for parents this week on Thursday, March 21st at 7:00 in the gym.  Mrs. Stowell has been working diligently with our students for the last several months and I’m certain that it will be a great show.

Mrs. Stowell will continue teaching music through this week with Mrs. Yarbro returning on Tuesday, April 9th.  Again–thank you to Mrs. Stowell for providing the students an opportunity to appreciate music and learn life-long musical skills during her time here at Danebo.

Upcoming Spring Break and Budget Reduction Days

Just a reminder that there will be no school for all Bethel students March 25th through March 29th due to spring break.

Bethel Schools will also be closed the week of April 1st through April 5th for budget reduction days, which means no school for students as well.

School resumes on Monday, April 8th.

Safety & Equity Committee In Bethel

Bethel School District is looking for great candidates to join the Safety and Equity Committee, an advisory committee of the School Board.

The primary goal of this volunteer committee is to ensure all students can access opportunities and resources provided by Bethel schools.

In addition, we seek to make schools safe for all students and staff through curriculum, policy and procedural recommendations. Members of the Safety and Equity committee are critical for helping to guide the district and assist staff in meeting the needs of our diverse student population.

Please complete the Safety and Equity Application for Appointment (located on the Bethel website) and return by 5:00 p.m., March 22, to:
Bethel School District
4640 Barger Drive
Eugene, OR  97402

For questions or more information, email or call Remie Calalang, 541-607-1454.

Plastic Bag Contest Starts at Danebo

Thanks to Perry Tendick, Store Director at the Albertsons on Royal, Danebo has the opportunity to raise awareness of the upcoming plastic bag ban in Eugene (starting May 1st) and earn some valuable prizes for our school.  Here’s how it works:

Between March 18th and April 19th, bring your plastic bags (from any store) to either Danebo or Albertsons on Royal.  Bags will be weighed weekly and the schools with the highest bag weight at the end of the contest (April 19th) will win prizes.

Danebo is fortunate to have our connection with Perry and the Albertsons Staff.  They have assisted our families with holiday food boxes for the last several years and now they are hoping to help us win a new bench for the school and/or Albertsons gift cards.

Ten schools in the Eugene area will be competing, include Fairfield and Danebo from the Bethel School District.  So…save those plastic bags and help us recycle them AND win prizes for Danebo.

We will have a collection bin in the office area this week, so feel free to start saving those bags to help us out!  Contact the school office if you have questions at 541-688-8735.  Thanks for your help with this!

Our staff wishes you a safe two week break and we look forward to continuing our learning strides when we return on Monday, April 8th.
