Conferences and Book Fair This Week

Parents, we look forward to meeting you at parent-teacher conferences this week. This is a vital meeting between you and your child’s teacher and ask you to make sure that you attend your scheduled conference. You will receive your child’s report card and discuss any concerns, as well as identify how you as the parent, can be involved with your child’s education. If you have a scheduling conflict or don’t know when your conference is, please contact the school office at 541-688-8735 and we will more than happy to assist you.

Our Scholastic Book Fair will be open during conference times: Wednesday from 3-5 PM and 6-8 PM and Thursday 1-5 PM and 6-8 PM. Stop by for great “buy-one-get one” deals on books and other cool stuff.

There will be no kindergarten on Thursday, April 12 and students in grades 1-5 will be dismissed at 11:45 AM to allow teachers time during the day to hold conferences. There will be NO school on Friday.

Kidsports Vouchers Available

We are pleased to announce that Kidsports has made 20 vouchers available to students who are on the free/reduced lunch program at Danebo. These vouchers are made possible by this year’s sponsor, Zip-O-Logs Mills, Inc. and Pacific Continental Bank. We currently have 16 left and will take requests for vouchers. A voucher has a maximum cash value that does not necessarily cover the entire tuition fee for some sports programs. Please contact Kidsports directly to inquire about tuition costs for various sports programs at 541-683-2374. Contact the office at 541-688-8735 or stop by to request a voucher. Thank you.

Danebo – Oregon’s Newest Green School

Mrs. List, Mrs. Ford and students receive the Green School grant check and certificate

Danebo is the newest Oregon Green School.  As of last week, our school is now certified because of all the wonderful work that we are doing to cut waste and conserve resources.  We are all very proud of our accomplishment!

On February 7th, we received our certificate from the Oregon Green Schools Association at an all school assembly, as well as a $500 grant from the City of Eugene and Lane County Waste Management.  Anne Donahue from the city presented Danebo with a large presentation size check on the day of the assembly.

To become a Green School we followed many steps. First we formed a team and came up with a plan of how we would like to change the ways we recycle and conserve resources at Danebo. Many teachers and students have participated in this process. Some of the things we have done include educating all students and adults about the correct way to recycle. We’re also working to recycle metal in the lunch room, use scrap paper in classrooms, reward classes that are recycling well and conserve energy by turning off the lights when not in the room.

We want to thank 4th grade teacher, Courtney List, and her class for leading the charge on recycling efforts here at Danebo, making our new Green School status a possibility, as well as the grant award!

Children’s Miracle Network Coin Drive

Danebo, along with other Bethel schools, is collecting coins for the Children’s Miracle Network, that will be presented at the annual Willamette High Mr. Wolverine Pageant on March 17th. Funds raised by schools and the Mr. Wolverine pageant will go to help with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) costs due to premature births. Our coin drive ends Friday, February 17th.

The class that collects the most change will receive a cookie and pizza party from Izzys! We appreciate any change…pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters…and even dollars! It all adds up and we are excited to be a part of this important fundraiser to help these tiny little babies and their families. Tickets will be on sale for the Mr. Wolverine pageant will be on sale at Willamette High School soon, which is another great way to support the Children’s Miracle Network. Thank you for your support.

Box Tops February Class Contest

Get ready, get set and clip! Danebo classes will be having another Box Top collecting contest in February. We’ll be sending home collection sheets for you to use, so please be on the look-out for Box Tops that come on so many of the products that you purchase. Box Tops count for all of February for your child’s class, so wait until then to turn them in to add to add to your child’s class totals. The class that earns the most will have a popcorn party.

The grand total earnings from your 2011 Box Tops collections was a whopping $2,292.10!!! Wow! Thank you for giving and special thanks to the Life Skills class for counting and processing Box Tops for our school. Thanks also to Julie Ottovich, who will help the Life Skills class with coordinating our February campaign.
