Walk & Roll To School on Thursday, 5/16

We are celebrating Walk & Roll to School tomorrow, Thursday, 5/16. Students who walk, bike, or scooter to school will receive prizes. In addition, students who bus, walk, bike, or scooter will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of the following prizes:

               *Mini skateboard (2)

               *Scooter (2)

               *Bike helmet (3)

               *Get Air Gift Card

               *One Pass

               *Water Bottle (2)

               *LED Lights (4)

               *Bike lock

Please note this change:

               Students who ride the First Student buses to school will have the opportunity to walk to school with supervisors from our Safe Routes to School program AND Danebo Staff. Buses will drop students at the Albertson’s parking lot where they will be met by supervisors. We will cross Royal at Danebo (with adult supports at the cross walk), then walk down Welcome Way to Candlelight.

               If your child does not want to walk from Albertsons, they can remain on the bus and will be transported to Danebo by the First Student driver. If you would prefer that your child NOT walk to school, please be sure that they know to remain on the bus at Albertsons.

Free Family Event

Hands on demonstrations of the science behind optics, light, and color; a laser maze; win a light kit so you can experiment with light at home.  

They are all part of a free family event this Thursday at the UO called International Day of Light: Illuminating Education.

Learn how eyes work, why the sky is blue and what lasers are used for.

  • May 16th at 6:00 p.m. in the Atrium of Willamette Hall (1371 E 13th Ave)
  • Courtesy of the UO chapter of the Optical Society
  • Free to all families

Evento Familiar Gratis

Las demostraciones de la ciencia detrás de la óptica, la luz y el color; un laberinto laser; gana un kit de luz para que puedas experimentar con la luz en casa.

Todos son parte de un evento familiar gratuito este jueves en la UO llamado Día Internacional de la Luz: Educación Iluminadora.

Aprenda cómo funcionan los ojos, por qué el cielo es azul y para qué se usan los láseres.

Walk & Roll to School Day on Thursday, May 16th

Join us for Walk & Roll to School on Thursday. All students who walk, bike, or roll to school will receive a small Walk & Bike prize and a raffle ticket to be entered into drawings for larger prizes like a scooter and bike helmet.

New this year…bus riders will be dropped off at the Albertson’s Parking lot on Royal and will walk to Danebo (crossing at N. Danebo & Royal, walking down Welcome Way to Candlelight) with volunteers. If you’d like to join us, we would LOVE to have you.

We are looking for volunteers to walk with students who ride the bus and volunteers to hand out prizes to students who walk and roll to school.

Speaking of Help…

We need your help in supplying donations for our Danebo Celebration Raffle baskets.

Letters have been in Tuesday folders indicating the theme of your child’s basket. If you are able to purchase an item or two, please have them turned in to your child’s teacher by Friday, May 17th.

Basket themes are:

            2-3                               Family Crafts & Fun Night

            4-5                               Outdoor Activities

            Life Skills & ERR        Family Movie Night

Save the Date…The Danebo Celebration is Just Around the Corner!

Please plan to join us for our annual Danebo Celebration on Thursday, May 23rd, from 5:00-7:00.

In addition, Mrs. Gregory has made arrangements for the Scholastic Book Fair to be going on during the Celebration and it is a “Buy one/Get one free” event. The Book Fair will take place in the library and the Danebo Celebration will be throughout the building.

Please join us for this fun, family event!

Reminder:  No School, Wednesday, May 8th

 

Free Meals On May 8th

Breakfast and lunch will be served on Wednesday, May 8th at Cascade Middle School. The meals will be free to any children ages 1-18. No registration is required, but we cannot provide food for parents or guardians and all food must be eaten on site.

There is no school on May 8th as Bethel’s licensed school staff have pledged to a “walkout” calling for increased funding for K-12 education in Oregon.

Location: Cascade Middle School, 1525 Echo Hollow Road

Breakfast:  9:00 – 9:30 a.m.

Lunch:  11:30 – 1:00 p.m.

Child supervision will not be provided.

Comidas gratis el 8 de mayo

El desayuno y el almuerzo se servirán el miércoles 8 de mayo en Cascade Middle School. Las comidas serán gratuitas para cualquier niño de 1 a 18 años. No se requiere registro, pero no podemos proporcionar alimentos para los padres o tutores y todos los alimentos deben comerse en el sitio.

Kalapuya High School Plant Sale

Hanging baskets, organic vegetable starts, perennial flowers, and more are available at the annual Kalapuya Plant Sale, Saturday, May 11th.

Flower baskets, zinnias, peppers, tomatoes, bush beans, squash, and succulents are some of the plants available at Kalapuya High School (1200 N. Terry) from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  You are encouraged to get there early for this popular event.

Proceeds from this plant sale support the hugely successful agriculture program at Kalapuya.

Cestas de flores, zinnias, pimientos, tomates, frijoles, calabacines y suculentas son algunas de las plantas disponibles en Kalapuya High School (1200 N. Terry) de 9:00 a.m. a 2:00 p.m. Le animamos a llegar temprano para este evento popular.

Las ganancias de la venta de esta planta apoyan el exitoso programa de agricultura en Kalapuya.

Peter Pan, A Musical Adventure!

Willamette High School Theatre presents, Peter Pan, A Musical Adventure! The legend of Peter Pan has been delighting children for over 100 years and this faithful new version is a festive adventure, perfect for the whole family. Please join Peter and the Darling children as they are whisked away to Neverland where they encounter a host of colorful characters, including the dastardly Captain Hook!

When: May 9th, 10th, and 11th
Where: Willamette High School, Powers Auditorium
Time: Doors open at 6:15, and the show starts at 7:00pm
Tickets: Available at the door: $6 for staff/students and $8 for general admission, Kids 6 and under are free

CATCH Family Night, Thursday, May 2nd

Please plan to join us for a fun, activity-filled evening on Thursday, May 2nd from 5:30-7pm.

The CATCH program (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) encourages students, staff and families to consider ways to increase activity levels with fun activities. In addition, they introduce students to “whoa, slow, and go” foods to help make healthy food choices.

The gym will have a number of self-explanatory activities and we’ll have the Gaga pit open on the playground.

The cafeteria will host some tasty and healthy snacks including yogurt parfaits, build-your-own trail mix, and the Bike Blender Smoothies, where you have to “work” to get your smoothie!

Please plan to join us for this free, fun, family-centered evening!
