The Latest- From Clear Lake…
The 2017-2018 School Year Is Under Way!!!
Greetings CL families, staff, and friends,
The 17-18 school year has begun- with some “firsts” for the year. It’s the first time we have had indoor recess when it was NOT raining! The recent spell of poor air quality seems to have passed. It is a first to have 6 new licensed staff in the building to start a year. We have welcomed… Mr. Sagala- K teacher, Mrs. Patch- 2/3 teacher, Mr. Gosa- 4/5 teacher, Mrs. Lees- counselor, Mrs. Mattingly- Life Skills teacher, and Mrs. Simmond- Resource room teacher. Many of the teachers gathered at the school the evening before the start of school and chalked welcome back messages and pictures for the students to see on the first day:
The Eclipse Was TOTAL… Awesomeness
The bus left Clear Lake at 7:00am on August 21 with 22 parents and students aboard. We had a smooth ride with no problems, getting to our destination in Scio after an hour and twenty minute ride. We set up on the field at Centennial Elementary with blankets, snacks, AND eclipse glasses. The eclipse started as promised at 9:05am. Our cell phones buzzed with a couple of emergency text alerts reminding all not to look directly at the sun. Then, at the moment of totality at 10:17, we took off our glasses and saw an awesome sight for about two minutes before the sun returned. After a short while, we boarded the bus back to CL- it took us three hours and twenty minutes to return in the heavy post-eclipse traffic. All in all, everyone thought it was TOTALLY worth it!!
