Spring Here Soon- And Daylight Savings
What a beautiful day, today. Temps made it possible to have our FIRST outside lunch of 2017. When the weather is nice like this, we like to have students eat outside in our enclosed courtyard. It’s fun to watch the birds and squirrels out amongst us. Don’t forget that daylight savings time. Set you clocks forward one hour this Sunday to be on time for the rest of the year… until the Fall end of DST.
Family Fun Night March 23
PTO is gearing up to host the annual Family Fun Night event at Clear Lake. There is FREE Bingo with prizes, FREE Carnival- style games for the kids, and this year- as part of the kick off of our CATCH program (Coordinated Approach To Child Health), we will serve FREE Frozen Yogurt. The PTO does the event as a “Thanks You” to all families for supporting their work to help students & teachers by providing funds as requested by teachers for the classroom. iPads, Chromebooks, reading books, the 4/5 Track program, OBOB; just to name a few of the things PTO has provided to the school. As part of Family Fun Night, there will be a 50:50 drawing, and each grade band is asking for families to donate one item to their theme basket. Items are needed by March 22. The themes this year are;
K/1 Classes- Kitchen / Cooking basket
2/3 & Life Skills Classes: Gardening basket
4/5 Classes- Arts & Crafts basket
Remember- all of the PTO proceeds go to support the school!
State Testing Begins Soon

Grades 3 & 4 will do Language Arts and Math tests. Watch for more information about the test schedule and help your child(ren) by making sure they get enough sleep, and are prepared for school. If you find your child is seeming stressed out about tests, call the school and let us know so we can help them prepare and accept that doing their best effort is all we ask. Our PTO Helps Clear Lake When we do school fundraisers (three total this year) to earn money for the CL PTO, that money goes back to directly help students at Clear Lake. Our PTO has funded numerous events and equipment, such as; Field Trips for any class requesting a trip, Funding the School Garden Project classes, new Chromebooks for classrooms, iPads for classrooms, funds to support OBOB, funding the grade 4/5 Track program- to name a few things. So when they do fundraisers, it is asking students to help earn money that comes back to them to enhance their education.

Hello Clear Lake Families,
We are excited to share the District’s finalized plans to make up lost classroom time due to the six Snow Days and two Delayed Starts we’ve already experienced. These changes will allow Clear Lake students to recover meaningful instructional time without putting a big dent in family summer plans.
The new schedule is attached, and here are the changes:
- February 13 (previously a high school no-school day) will become a school day for all district students
- February 20 (Presidents Day) will become a school day for all students
- March 3 (previously a no-school day for K-8 students) will become a school day for all students
- Monday June 19th, and Tuesday June 20thwill be full school days for K-11 students (seniors will have graduated)
- June 20thwill now be the last day of school for students (it will be a full-day, not an early release)
- If we have additional Snow Days this winter they may be added to the calendar after June 20th
Please mark these changes on your calendar and plan to have your child in school on these days. All Bethel students will now be in the classroom for more hours than is required by the state, and we want to provide as much meaningful instructional time as possible. The cancelled school days have shown that each day of instruction is important for our children.
Thanks for your patience as the schedule was being reworked, and let me know if you have any questions.
P.S. Click HERE for a PDF Clear Lake calendar for the remainder of the year.

Three CL Staff Awarded BEF Grants
Jennifer Reiss were recently awarded Bethel Education Foundation grants. They each wrote a proposal that outlined how their project would benefit students. The Foundation reads the proposals fro all Bethel applicants and choose the projects they score as highest overall. Mrs. Reiss will purchase software to help students in the Life Skills programs at Clear Lake and Danebo with communication skills. Mrs. Forester will take students to Salem for a trip to the Oregon capital. Mrs. Cox will purchase another 6 chromebooks and Oz-bot robots for students to learn programming skills. Congratulations to all three for their work to improve the education of our students!
