Bethel’s current Farm to School program will be expanded thanks to a $100,000 grant from the USDA.
As the only grant recipient in Oregon, Bethel will be able to bring science-based school garden education and nutrition education to each of its elementary schools.
The grant will also fund student field trips to the Bethel Farm and cooking classes for Kalapuya High School students.
Willamette’s Graphic Arts students will design and develop signage for cafeterias and school menus, and create promotional materials for the Farm to School program and the district’s Try It Thursday program.
Bethel’s Nutrition Services Department also recently received a $5,000 award for its use and promotion of mushrooms in school meals.
All families are invited to take part in the annual Bethel Multicultural Fair Friday, May 20, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
The event at Prairie Mountain School is free and showcases some of the many cultures within our Bethel community.
You can anticipate an evening of food, entertainment, and information brought to us through the collaboration of Bethel families, staff, and local organizations.
Parents of Bethel students are encouraged to register their students now for the coming school year.
Even those who pre-registered in the spring need to complete the registration process so all students are fully prepared for the start of school.
The first day of school is Tuesday, September 2nd, the day after Labor Day.
It’s an exciting time as Bethel School District invites all incoming Kindergarten students and their families to Kindergarten Orientation this Wednesday and Thursday.
Families will learn all about Bethel’s terrific kindergarten program, meet the kindergarten teachers, principals, counselors and other key staff, and take home a free special book for incoming Bethel kindergarten students.
Materials will be available for early registration for the 2014-15 school year.
