Students Earn Thousands In Scholarships

Willamette's Culinary Team brought home a trophy and thousands in scholarship money from the Oregon Coast Invitational culinary competition.

Willamette’s Culinary Team brought home a trophy and thousands in scholarship money from the Oregon Coast Invitational culinary competition.

The Willamette Culinary Team brought home some hardware after finishing second in the 9th annual Oregon Coast Invitational in Coos Bay.

The Wil-Hi team had to prepare three plates of three courses in one hour of cooking time, with the entrée featuring seafood as the protein.

Each team member received a $3,000 scholarship to the Oregon Coast Culinary institute. In addition, Alexandra Gilbert took first in an individual competition to earn another $2,000 in scholarship money, and Braxton Shipman was third for another $1,000 in scholarship funds.

Other team members are Parker Hansen, Desiree Maring and Ruth Perez.
