New Flag Unveiled On 9-11

Willamette’s new flag – the first of its kind in Oregon – is unfurled for the national anthem at the WHS volleyball game on 9-11.

Thanks to donations from a pair of community partners, a large new American flag has been unfurled – and then retracted – at Willamette High School.

The first display of the new flag took place at a WHS volleyball game on September 11th.

The “rolling” flag is remotely controlled to unfurl slowly from the gymnasium ceiling, descending like a pull-down shade.

The 18 foot long and 12 foot wide flag makes for an impressive display. It’s so large that it is retracted after the national anthem before play on the court can begin.

Bi-Mart and Oregon Community Credit Union offered generous donations to purchase the flag, the first of its kind in Oregon.
