Committee Approves Difficult 2012-13 Budget
Faced with some difficult scenarios, the Bethel Budget Committee has approved a budget that falls $3.3 million short of maintaining the District’s current program levels.
The Budget Committee again used a combination of cuts to staffing and supplies, employee wage concessions, and the use of reserve funds to make up the difference.
The exact number of positions that will be lost hasn’t been determined but every Bethel school and department will be impacted.
The budget for the 2012-13 school year, which still needs to be adopted by the School Board, includes an expectation of 10 budget reduction days for teachers and even more furlough days for administrators.

Is it possible to put the budget reduction days at the end of the school year? Rather than spread out throughout the year? This would make it much easier for working parents to arrange daycare.
J.murphy is right i think they should do that instead of putting them in the middle of the year
Any budget reduction days will be balanced between semesters. Teachers at Willamette High School work very hard to present the same amount of curriculum in spite of the budget reduction days. Reducing the days in one semester more than the other would short-change one semester, making it very difficult for students and teachers to make it through all the material they need to cover.
