The initial meeting of Bethel’s English Language Arts Curriculum Committee has them on-track for adopting new curriculum in 2014.

Bethel teachers and administrators are making headway in determining which curriculum to adopt in Math, Social Studies, English Language Arts and Science.

The Bethel bond measure included funds to replace worn, outdated textbooks throughout the District.

Settling on new material isn’t as easy as it might sound. Textbook companies are in the midst of changing their content so the curriculum matches the new Common Core State Standards, which are being adopted by 45 states, including Oregon.

The new standards will provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students throughout the country are expected to learn in order to be successful in college or a career.

Bethel staff have volunteered to be on curriculum adoption committees for the four subjects, and intend on having recommendations in time for new textbooks in Social Studies and English Language Arts to be ordered next spring.
